And a browser (Internet Explorer 6.00 or higher or Netscape 5.0 or

Pop-Up-Blocker A pop-up-blocker may prevent you from taking tests in Blackboard.

Computer Doesn’t Notice: You will not be given extra time for tests or assignments

house to complete your work.

Policies The last day to withdraw (W-Day) from a course is April 19, 2013. It is your responsibility to drop or withdraw from a course if you feel you cannot pass the course or do the assignments. You must complete the forms in the Registrar’s Office.

Under section 51.907 of the Texas Education Code, “an institution of

higher education” may not permit a student to drop more than six

courses including any course a transfer student has dropped at

another institution of higher education.

Academic Dishonesty

The WCJC catalog states: “Plagiarism and cheating refer to the use of unauthorized books, notes, or otherwise securing help in a test; copying tests, assignments, reports, or term papers....Misconduct may result in the student being placed on disciplinary probation or suspension (dismissal)”.

Evaluation

Exams There will be about four tests that are worth 30% of your final grade.

The final exam will cover Chapters 1-14 and will be worth 20% of your final grade.

Click Unit Exams located on the left side of the homepage. All the Unit Exams will be taken on-line; however, you may be required to take a test on-site rather than on-line for any reason. The Unit Exam grade will be posted under the button My Grades in Blackboard as soon as the test is submitted.

Make-up Exams Make-up Exams will be given the week of April 29. It will be up to you to contact me to schedule a make-up exam.

WCJC does not give an “I” (incomplete) unless it is approved by the

Vice President of Academic Affairs. If you have extenuating

circumstances, please contact your instructor.

Homework Homework is due on the assigned date which is usually on a Saturday by 11 p.m.(no exceptions). Some homework will be done online at

the CengageNow website.

Instructions for registering your access code (which is wrapped with your textbook) at the Cengage website are included in your course. There is also a link to the homework website.

Some of your homework will be composing a business letter. The letters will be typed using MS Word and sent to me as an attachment.

Chapter Quizzes Click on Chapter Quizzes located on the left side of the homepage,

then select the appropriate Chapter. The average of 14 chapter quizzes will comprise 10% of your final Grade. Refer to the Calendar for specific due dates which will usually be on Wednesdays. You must complete them by the deadline stated in the calendar. No make-ups are given for Chapter Quizzes. Your first Chapter Quiz will be due on

January 23. Once you have answered all the questions, click submit.

I consider the Chapter Quizzes similar to a Study Guide so you will take an on-line Chapter Quiz over each chapter to help you prepare

for the unit test; therefore, you can take the chapter quiz two times (prior to the deadline.) The AVERAGE of the chapter quizzes will be recorded.

If you miss the deadline for a Chapter Quiz, the recorded grade will be

zero. Your chapter quiz scores can be viewed under the Blackboard

Button called My Grades.

Extra Credit No extra credit is available to improve your grade.

Due Dates Click on the “My Calendar” button to see due dates for Quizzes, Homework, and Unit Exams. The program will not allow you to take a chapter quiz or unit exam beyond the specified due date.

Final Course Grade The final course grade will be based on scores from about four exami-

nations, quizzes, homework, and a comprehensive final.

The calculation of the final course grade is determined using the following formulas:

Weighted Criteria:

40% Homework

10% Quizzes

30% Exams

20% Final Exam

Grading System:

This system will be used to determine grades on all tests.

90 - 100 = A

80 - 89 = B

70 - 79 = C

60 – 69 = D

0 – 59 = F
