Party Planners Needed

Wednesday, January 12, 7:00 p.m. in the John Witherspoon Middle School Cafeteria

Before an important PRS Public Forum on the Budget, meet representatives of SOSnj and hear how this nonpartisan, grassroots group is working to preserve our excellent public schools and what you can do to help. Parents, grandparents and anyone who cares about public education in Princeton and across the state can’t afford to miss this meeting.

Why should you care: Imagine our schools without:

• Art, music or languages (K-12)

• High school electives

• Pre-K- and full-day kindergarten

• Middle and high school extracurricular activities

Make no mistake, these changes are coming soon unless we act now. Go to the SOSnj website at SaveOurSchoolsNJ and join the group’s mailing list to stay informed and have a voice. Link to SOSnj on Facebook at SaveOurSchoolsNJ on Facebook

The following are procedures to follow in case of a closing or delayed opening of school:

The superintendent will make a decision as early as possible. Cancellations and delays will be announced over radio stations: WKXW (NJ 101.5 FM), WHWH (1350 AM), on television Channel 6 Action News, WCAU Channel 10 NBC, Comcast Channel 25. You can call the district’s emergency closing message line at 806-4202 or check online notices at prs.K12.nj.us.

A delayed opening will constitute a 90 minute delay. Buses will run approximately 90 minutes later than usual pick-up time. Walkers should not arrive at school before 9:30 a.m. If it is necessary to close school early (1:00 p.m.) during the day because of severe weather or other emergency, the superintendent will make a decision by approximately 10:30 a.m. Please call 806-4202 for the decision, not our main office.

Happy New Year & welcome back! January will be full of activities. This month, there will be classroom discussions & library books read related to our Six Pillars of Character theme, “Respect”. Please take time to talk with your child about what it means to show respect & to be respectful. On Tuesday, January 18th, Primary Focus will be coming to our school with their lively character education performances for all grades.

On Thursday, January 13th, all of the 5th grade classes will attend a presentation on internet safety & cyber-bullying, by Detective Benjamin Gering of the Township’s police department.

On Friday, January 21st, all of the 5th grade classes will attend a substance awareness presentation from the Teen Advisory Group (TAG). TAG is a group of 11th grade students from the Princeton area schools which is coordinated by Corner House.

From the Principal's Office

Dear Community Park Families,

Happy New Year! Happy Birthday to Community Park School!

It’s celebration time. Upon our return to Community Park School on Monday, we were excited to see blue and white balloons waving in the breeze welcoming us at our front doors. This marked the official kickoff to our 50th Anniversary Celebration of Community Park School. Please be sure to see our new banner outside with Parker Bear wearing his birthday hat. We started the celebration by singing happy birthday to CP at the start of school Monday morning. Our staff and students are eagerly awaiting delivery of our new celebration t-shirts. The logo for the shirts was voted on by all of our students, and everyone can’t wait to see the results on our shirts. Be sure to watch for more celebration activities in the coming days, weeks and months.

Our focus on writing this year continues with teachers involved in PLC’s (professional learning communities) to review different aspects of writing so as to provide more targeted instruction to strengthen writing skills. As you visit our school, be sure to notice our bulletin boards with our children’s writing.

Our first graders are filled with excitement as they get ready for their visit from published author/illustrator Dar Hosta. She will be working with all first graders engaging them in the writing and illustrating of their stories. Thank you to the PTO for providing our young writers with this wonderful opportunity.

Sharon Goldman

Principal

As you may know, the Borough and Township of Princeton have appointed a joint Commission to Study the Feasibility of Full Municipal Consolidation of Police and Public Works. The Commission has engaged a consultant, CGR, to help with data gathering to inform any recommendations it may make. All information on this project can be found on the study website at princeton.

The Commission wants all stakeholders have a voice in the process and has asked that CP parents host small parent and other neighborhood groups at their homes to discuss consolidation and shared services with Commission members, perhaps including seniors who may not have Internet access.

If you would be willing to host a neighborhood meeting in your home, contact Carol Golden at cgolden1212@. Thank you for your help!
