MaxScholar Multi-syllabic words lesson planVisual: Introduce the relevant skill for the lesson (syllable type/ spelling rule/ prefix/ suffix/ root) by name, along with its definition or meaning. You will use index cards to make this introduction while showing them to the students. You should use several more index cards to expose the students to words that are relevant for the skill taught.Auditory/ Tactile: Give 5-10 words to the students which are relevant for the skill taught. They will trace them on a surface (salt on a tray, Ziploc bag with shaving cream or hair gel, or any other textured surface), and then write them on paper.Sound Blending: Give 5-10 more words to the student which are relevant for the skill taught. This time, they will split the words into syllables or tap out the sounds in the words. They should also write them down, syllabicate, and code them on paper.Fluency: Use a list of words to time each student individually for 60 seconds. You can find many lists on the materials section of your dashboard. Keep track of how many words are read in total and how many mistakes are made. The final score will be the total amount of words that they read correctly. You should keep track of these scores on the charts provided, or the online reports.Spelling (word) Dictation & SOS: Choose any 10 words used in steps 3, 4, or 5 of your lesson and dictate them to the student. For each word you should ask the student how many syllables it has. You should have the students tap out each syllable/sound before writing it down on paper. Sentence Dictation & COPS: Come up with 5-10 sentences and dictate them to the student. Say the sentence out loud and then have the students say it back to you. Ask them how many words they hear. Then, have them write each sentence down on paper.MaxReading: Have the student integrate word recognition into text by doing a MaxReading chapter. You might also want to come up with an original story to reinforce the words and skills covered in the lesson.Additional exercises that can be added to the lesson to provide more drill and practice:?Write or explain the skill taught in their own words.?When reading a text, underline the words that are relevant to the skill taught.?Work on new vocabulary words from the module/section that you are on.?Complete relevant pages in the workbooks if you have them.?Complete worksheets which can be accessed through the dashboard or create your own.
