We will begin with the basics of typing techniques. Emphasis will be on speed and accuracy as well as spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Students are also offered opportunities to gather information about careers in technology. Communications and critical thinking skills are reinforced. Simulations and projects promoting the skills they’ve learned will offer further opportunities for application of knowledge.Instructional ApproachActive participation is essential in this course. Students will learn the skills described above through hands-on execution of a computer. The teacher will instruct through demonstration and presentations, but the students will learn by doing. After a major portion of skills have been mastered, students will participate in project based learning as well. MaterialsStudents will not have a book for this course. The instructor will provide all information via handouts, notes, class discussions and activities, worksheets, presentations, etc. Students will be required to keep a notebook where all items will be labeled. The notebook will be checked for the included items and graded anywhere from 1-3 times each nine weeks. Students will only need the following three items for Computer Essentials in order to participate and maintain their notebooks:Three-ring Binder (You may include this course in a binder you use for another class)Loose-leaf paperPen or Pencil? Assessment and GradingStudents will be assessed on class work, notebook checks, quizzes, projects, drills, and typing, etc. The point system will be used for grading. For example, if there are 10 questions on a quiz and you only miss two, your grade is an 8/10, which is an 80.Procedures and ExpectationsIt's simple. Do what you’re supposed to do, act how you’re supposed to act, bring what you’re supposed to bring. Failure to do this will result in you facing consequences. The first offense will include break detention, cleaning, extra work, etc. After that you will be written up and dealt with in the office. The expectations for your behavior are very simple, and every single student can easily meet them. Failure to meet the expectations is simply a refusal to do so; therefore, I have little tolerance for any student won’t follow these basic rules and procedures. ................
