Yes! It’s true! For the 3rd quarter, those students who complete 30 minutes or more of Typing Agent (lessons and tests) a week starting February 15 through April 3 will be invited on a field trip to Google Headquarters. Please see the flyer below for more details. A few Typing Agent FAQsQ: How can my child avoid getting a “Missing Homework” for Typing Agent?A: Students need to type a minimum of 10 minutes WEEKLY to avoid “Missing Homework” and to receive full credit for their weekly homework.Q: How much time SHOULD my child be typing each week?A: Ideally, students should type 10-15 minutes a day. A good target is 30 to 40 minutes a week.Q: How do I track how much time my child has typed?A: Currently, there is no report available for students and parents to track weekly time. One way is to set a timer and record the time spent typing (not including breaks) in a daily log. (Ms. Bowens is in communication with Typing Agent developers and they are working on a time report.) Keep in mind, if a student stops a lesson or test and restarts it, the time spent on the first try is lost. Q: What if my student has already completed the assigned Typing Agent unit for the quarter? A: They should go back and practice lessons they’ve completed focusing on excellent form (home row and not looking at fingers), accuracy and eventually speed. They can also practice tests.Q: My child insists that he/she typed for more than 10 minutes, but still received a “Missing Homework”. How can this be?A: If a student stops a lesson or test before the end and starts it over, the time spent on the initial try does not count. Students need to complete a lesson or test for the time to count. Please click here to see individual grade level expectations for overall quarterly progress. Please feel free to contact Ms. Bowens with any questions at rbowens2@cps.edu. ................
