JOB DESCRIPTION

ATHLETIC TRAINER

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Athletic Trainer Certification.

a. Valid NATABOC Certification

b. Proof of registration with WV Board of Physical Therapy

c. Attend Athletic Trainer Workshop

If the applicant does not have Athletic Trainer certification, he/she must be a licensed Health

Care Provider to apply for a Limited Football Trainer authorization.

2. Limited Football Trainer

a. Health Care Provider License that may include but not limited to: chiropractor, physical therapist, RN licensed practical nurse, physician, physician assistant, paramedic, occupational therapist, emergency medical technician or nurse practitioner.

b. Affirmation of in-person attendance at the WVSSAC Athletic Trainer Rules Clinic

c. High School Diploma or Equivalent

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:

Athletic Director

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. Responsible for giving basic instruction to athletic staff members in the

prevention and care of injuries.

2. Responsible for referring athletic injuries to physicians for diagnosis and/or treatment.

3. Carries out appropriate instructions and treatment as directed by the athlete’s physician.

4. Develops and supervises appropriate rehabilitation programs for athletes under the direction of the physician.

5. Assists and advises the coaching staff regarding injury prevention, conditioning programs, and the selection, care and fitting of protective equipment.

6. Responsible for the treatment and supervision of treatment of all minor athletic injuries and conditions.

7. Responsible for the organization, inventory, and requisition of all training room supplies. Requisitions for medical equipment and/or supplies must be submitted to the Athletic Director.

8. Must be present at all senior high practices and football games.

9. Responsible for the care and cleanliness of the training room.

10. Responsible for reporting all injuries to the athletic director on the proper forms and keeping an annual record of injuries.

11. Responsible for completing all reports as required by WVSSAC pertaining to athletic trainer duties.

12. Shall perform all other job-related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

13. The trainer shall not be permitted to coach or assist in coaching in the football program while serving as trainer.
