ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS

FALL 2007

o Fall 2007, 57% (181/317) of student-athletes are on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (3.0+ semester GPA), the nineteenth consecutive semester maintaining 50% or higher on the honor roll. (See chart.)

o Overall, student-athletes have a mean cumulative GPA of 3.20 after the fall semester which is increased from 3.04 in the spring.

o 73% (92/126) of female student-athletes have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA after fall 2007; 46% (86/189) of all male student-athletes have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA.

o The percentage of student-athletes in poor academic standing is 8% (24/317) after fall 2007.

o Women’s Tennis (8/8) and Women’s Cross Country (10/10) tied with 100% of team members above the 3.0 semester mark in fall 2007. Women’s Soccer followed in the percentage of student-athletes on the honor roll with 91% (21/23).

o Women’s Tennis has the highest team cumulative GPA with a 3.61 after the fall 2007 semester; following closely behind was Women’s Soccer and Women’s Cross Country with 3.53. The highest team cumulative GPA on the men’s side was Men’s Cross Country with 3.25.

o Showing the biggest improvement in team cumulative GPA was Baseball, jumping from 2.87 to 3.06.

o Improving in percentage of team members on the honor roll in fall 2006 was Women’s Volleyball with 88%, up from 69% in spring 2007.

o The Missouri Valley and Gateway Conferences will recognize 162 ISU student-athletes for Conference Honor Roll (MVC = 3.20 or higher semester GPA; Gateway = 3.00 or higher).

o The Men’s Tennis program had two student-athletes honored. Senior Anton Tsymbalov and junior Michael Wenham were named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association 2007 Division 1 Men’s Scholar-Athlete list.

o In the past year, six ISU athletic teams have been ranked nationally due to their academic successes. These teams include: Women’s Basketball, Women’s Soccer, Women’s Track, Women’s Cross Country, Volleyball, and Men’s Cross Country.

o For the sixth consecutive season, the Indiana State Women’s Basketball program has been noted for its high academic achievements. The Sycamore women’s basketball team finished ranked 13th in the most recent Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 Team Honor Roll for NCAA Division I in team grade point average with a stellar mark of 3.398.

o The Indiana State football program placed four student-athletes on the 2007 All-Gateway Football Conference Academic squad, highlighted by senior Bryan McCulley being named to the First Team. Joining McCulley on the list were second team members; senior Jacob Carpenter and Ryan Patrick as well as honorable mention selection senior Brian Jackson.

o Three Cross Country student-athletes have been honored for their achievements in the classroom and on the course. Scott Keeney, Kayla Alexander and Heather Stembridge have all been named Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes. In addition, The Women’s track and field team was recognized by the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association as a member of the All-Academic Indoor and Outdoor Team.

o ISU ATHLETICS / ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS (CONT)

o Indiana State Women’s Basketball senior Rudolphi has been selected as a candidate for the 2007-08 Lowe’s Senior Class Award. The award - presented annually to the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete of the Year in eight sports - focuses on the “Four C’s” of classroom, character, community and competition.

o The Women’s Golf team placed five of its members on the National Golf Coaches Association's All-American Scholar Team. Freshmen Abby Butler, Aubrey Watt, Kayley Bodine, Kelsea Ice and Mackenzie Mack were all honored by the organization

o The 2007 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team features two Indiana State soccer players.  Alyssa Ramsey and Erin Bianchi received honorable mentions.

SPRING 2008

• 59% (174/294) of student-athletes are on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (3.0+ semester GPA), the twentieth consecutive semester maintaining 50% or higher on the honor roll. (See chart.)

• Overall, student-athletes have a mean cumulative GPA of 3.05 which is increased from 3.04 in spring 2007.

• 83% (92/111) of female student-athletes have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA; 45% (82/183) of all male student-athletes have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA.

• The percentage of student-athletes in poor academic standing is 7.3% (21/294).

• Women’s Golf (7/7) had 100% of team members above the 3.0 semester mark in fall 2007. Women’s Soccer followed in the percentage of student-athletes on the honor roll with 95% (19/20).

• Women’s Soccer has the highest team cumulative GPA with a 3.59; following closely behind was Women’s Golf and Women’s Cross Country with 3.57. The highest team cumulative GPA on the men’s side was Men’s Cross Country with 3.36.

• Showing the biggest improvement in team cumulative GPA was Softball, jumping from 3.09 to 3.22.

• Improving in percentage of team members on the honor roll was Women’s Basketball with 92%, up from 77% last semester.

• The Missouri Valley and Gateway Conferences will recognize 157 ISU student-athletes for Conference Honor Roll (MVC = 3.20 or higher semester GPA; Gateway = 3.00 or higher).

• Both Men’s and Women’s Cross Country were named as U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Teams.  

• The Women’s Volleyball team earned its 9th consecutive GamePlan/AVCA Team Academic Award, the longest active streak in NCAA Division I.

• The 2007-2008 MVC Scholar-Athlete Team features thirteen ISU Student-Athletes: Jay Tunnell, Adam Arnold (Men’s Basketball); Laura Rudolphi, Kelsey Luna (Women’s Basketball), Scott Keeney, Kayla Alexander, Heather Stembridge (Track and Cross Country); Alyssa Ramsey, Erin Bianchi (Women’s Soccer); Anton Tsymbalov, Michael Wenham (Men’s Tennis); Joanne Schickerling, Jennifer Migan (Women’s Tennis)
