Approval Process for courses submitted to the Compass CurriculumStep 1: Click on the “Submit or Revise courses” button. Fill out the course description. You can save your work and go back to it as needed. You can also apply to all areas of the Compass Curriculum at the same time.Once you have copied and pasted in your syllabus and schedule, chosen your dept. chair etc. the course description will go to your dept. chair for approval automatically over email.Steps 2: You, your department and college control your course disciplinary content. To ensure this your department chair receives an email that asks if they approve your course to be submitted to the Compass Curriculum for review. After your dept. chair approves it your college curriculum committee and associate dean approve it for our review (also over email). That ensures that your college decides which courses can be reviewed by us. In some cases a college may not want a course to be part of general education because they are concerned about college and department resources.Your college can not approve a course into the Compass Curriculum. They only agree that if the Compass Curriculum approves it that it can be taught from your college and department. Step 3: Once your college curriculum committee and associate dean agree that the Compass Curriculum can review the course then you will be invited to attend a meeting of the Compass Curriculum Committee to discuss how the course fits into the Compass Curriculum. You will then be notified whether the course was approved, conditionally approved (revision needed), or submitted for revision and resubmission. If a course is conditionally approved the Faculty Director will contact you so that you can make revisions on the website and hit resubmit.Questions?
