Curriculum and Program Development
▪ Current: Project Director for development of a three-course certification cluster that addresses the problem of business skills for artists. Courses under development are “Grant Writing & Development in the Arts,” “Business & Financial Management in the Arts,” “Public Relations & Marketing Strategies in the Arts.” Certification (and minor) will be launched in Fall 2013.
▪ Re-structured curriculum to add a fourth level of technique in Modern, Ballet, & Jazz, two pedagogy courses, two dance history courses, a social & folk dance elective course, and an advanced composition course to commence Fall 2008.
▪ Founded Center for Choreography in School of Theatre, University of Houston (2000)
Center for Choreography seeks to train students in creative thought and movement, provide a venue for the best choreographers from this country and abroad to exchange ideas and methods, and to bring a new dimension of artistic and educational endeavor to Houston.
▪ Acquired funding and instructor for new course: World Dance. Acquired funding and instructor for Tap Dance. (Spring 2003)
▪ Created "Choreography in Action" (2001-2002) as the launching project of the Center for Choreography at the University of Houston. "Choreography in Action," a Distance Education course on dance making, included lectures on aesthetics and history, interviews of 20 national & local choreographers, and demonstrations on craft techniques of dance making through video presentations on Instructional Television. It also included two websites. The course aired Spring 2002 for the first time. Course was approved as CORE in Fall 2002 (effective Fall 2003.)
▪ Aligned the choreography courses at University of Houston. Approved Fall 2000.
▪ Created new course at University of Houston (1999): Advanced Choreography Projects for seniors
▪ Aligned credit hours for 11 dance technique courses at University of Houston with theatre acting courses. Budget for additional credit hours approved May, 1999.
▪ Acquired funding for live musical accompaniment in dance technique classes at University of Houston (1999)
▪ Acquired funding for equipment necessary for dance courses (1998-1999): VHS playback/monitor, digital camera, VHS camera, audio equipment.
