Public Access Points on Walton County’s Coastal Dune LakesSouth Walton is home to 15 rare coastal dune lakes. These naturally occurring bodies of water are a combination of freshwater and saltwater, offering a unique habitat that’s found in only a handful of places around the world, such as New Zealand, Madagascar, Australia and the Pacific Northwest. Coastal Dune lakes are defined as such because the narrow spit of sand separating freshwater from saltwater is breached and reformed from time to time, mixing then separating the two bodies of water.Rules to remember: No jet-propelled watercraft are allowed on coastal dune lakes in Walton CountyDigging in or around a coastal dune lake outflow is not allowed without a permit from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.Fishing regulations/licensing rules applyFuller Lake: No public access.
