5TH INTERNATIONAL
SALIVARY GLAND CONGRESS
Congress Overview
The 5th International Salivary Gland Congress hosted jointly by Penn Medicine, Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University and Christiana Care, is designed to facilitate dissemination of knowledge and discussion of the most important aspects of salivary gland disease. This will be accomplished through presentations from an outstanding multidisciplinary international faculty. The meeting is formatted to allow formal presentation of important new information as well as panel discussions. The Congress will highlight new understanding of xerostomia, inflammatory and neoplastic diseases and new modalities such as sialendoscopy. Immediately preceding the Congress will be the 3rd Annual Jefferson Sialendoscopy Course (details at cme.jefferson.edu/content/sialendoscopy2019; see also page 3).
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
? Assess patients with complaints related to salivary gland disease
? Employ diagnostic techniques including advanced imaging and cytopathology
? Define different diagnostic entities in salivary gland disease
? Explain different management options in benign and malignant neoplasia and obstructive diseases of the salivary glands such as sialolithiasis and strictures.
? Identify the cause of obstructive diseases of the salivary glands (i.e. sialoliths, Sjogren's trauma, iatrogenic).
? Describe new technologies for neoplastic and inflammatory salivary gland diseases
? Calculate the advantages and limitations of different approaches
? Create postoperative management strategies for patients with different types of salivary gland diseases
? Employ effective communication skills to ensure information exchanges between all provider teams leading to better overall surgical outcomes and patient experience.
Target Audience
This program is designed for professionals interested in research in, as well as treatment of, conditions involving salivary glands or saliva. This Congress should be of particular interest to General Otolaryngologists, Head and Neck Surgeons, and Oral Surgeons.
