Mr. Doyle (206)US HistoryCourse SyllabusThis is a survey course of American History. Content will begin with the Native peoples prior to European exploration in the 16th century and will end with 9/11 and the consequences that follow. Throughout the year students will be exposed to all facets of American History. Attention will be given to our nation’s successes as well as its failures. It is not possible to go in depth on every topic but students will be exposed to all of the major events and policies that shape the nation we live in today. Every student must pass the Constitution exam (Public law 195). It is a state requirement for graduation. The exam will be given toward the end of the 1st quarter. It is a 100 question exam, students MUST receive a 75% or higher to pass the exam. Students who fail will be given an opportunity to take the exam again.Every student must participate in History Fair. This long term project is due at the end of the 1st semester. Students will begin their research in late October.Every student must complete a term paper which will be due at the end of the 3rd quarter. The students will get to pick from a variety of topics surrounding the Industrialization of America.GradingStudents grades are based on the following50% - exams50% - homework, assignments, classroom participation, portfolioMy class uses a point system, for every unit, students will have a chance to earn roughly 100 points per exam and 100 points for homework etc…MaterialsOn a daily basis students are to bring their notebook, folder, and a writing utensil.The course will be a mixture of lecture, group work, analysis of primary sources, and the reading of a wide variety of supplemental materials I will give to the students.If you have any questions about what is happening in class or how your student is doing please contact me at mtdoyle@ ................
