Everything you wanted to know about VB Marketing & Communications but didn’t know to ask.Owen Marketing and Communications is a small group of professionals responsible for branding, advertising, promotion and research for all Owen degree and non-degree programs. We partner with program directors and department heads to ensure that we have the tools and support needed to achieve goals with key audiences—current and prospective students, faculty and staff; employers; alumni and the academic community. We interact frequently with individual students, student leaders and clubs and have some valuable resources and insights to share. Here are the questions we are often asked:Q: How can I get a Vanderbilt/Owen logo?On the Owen Server, go to Public/Marketing Resources/B-Branding – Logos, etc./ Logos. Here you will find a variety of VOGSM logos in a variety of formats: .eps, .jpg and .png. While you can choose the one that best fits your application, we encourage you to use the one called OGSM Mothership-with University for Small Space Applications. In this folder, you will also find “Program ID’s”. These are approved pieces of art to be used when looking for a logotype for a specific program e.g., Vanderbilt MBA, Vanderbilt MS Finance. With regard to using our logos and program IDs: You may use these official marks on student club materials as long as it is clear that the document comes from the student club and is not a legal offering or obligation of the university; you can do this by inserting a clarifying statement such as “offered by the Vanderbilt Marketing Association, a student club of…” (Caution! You cannot not use Vanderbilt logos on merchandise for gifting or sale unless you are using a vendor that is licensed by Vanderbilt. Read more about creating branded merchandise below.)Q: Can I create/how do I create a new logo?Student organizations have a great deal of flexibility in creating new logos as long as they?do not try to borrow, unbundle or build off of the official Vanderbilt marks—the V (bug) and signature line and the Star. ?Stretching these logos to represent anything but the University, its colleges, or the Medical Center is a huge "no-no". It bastardizes the function of the logo and it might suggest to some that a student organization is an "official" representative of Vanderbilt. With that said: student organizations can use the words Vanderbilt, Owen Graduate School of Management as well as any font, color, design style or flourish in creating their logos. We strongly suggest you steer clear of using Oak Leafs or Stars since unofficial use might confuse or compete against the university’s official marks.Q: How can I build a website for a (fill in the blank-club, conference, competition?)We have templates that will allow you to build and customize a nice website on the Owen server using WordPress. This is an easy-to-use platform that requires no more than 30 minutes of training and can be managed by a non-technical person. With regard to clubs: several clubs have Anchor Link sites that are built and up and running. While the build-out and maintenance is up to the club officers, Anchor Link is happy to provide training to new users as needed.
