OBJECTIVE:

I am seeking an opportunity where I can leverage my experiences in cost reduction with flexible and rigid packaging materials. efficiencies. Developed and coordinated brand strategies utilizing merchandisers, packaging, advertising

EXPERIENCE: ABC Corporation, Anytown, USA 3/06 to present

Manager, Package Engineering Manage department responsible for generating structural packaging

of new and existing products for the home and garden industry. Spectrum Brands products are

merchandised at major home centers, mass-market retailers and specialty stores. Package engineering

works directly with marketing, manufacturing and graphic design to finalize the retail package concept,

then with the vendor to produce the package. Drop, vibration and compression testing are used in-house

to qualify our package and display designs. Outside testing is done using ISTA standards to certify our

in-store quarter pallet, half pallet and floor POP displays.

Structural packaging responsibilities include: paperboard cartons and trays, corrugated boxes and displays,

plastic molded displays, blisters and clamshells, plastic bags, blow molded bottles and aerosol cans. The product/

package specifications are entered into a company-wide database system for review and SAP purchasing.

Accomplishments

• Designed a quarter pallet plastic display utilizing a single molded tray and pole to hold four

different plastic bottles. Instead of having multiple trays, this single solution greatly reduced

tooling expenses and, in turn, reduced the overall display cost for multiple products.

XYZ Corporation, Anothertown, USA 1/02 to 2/06

Product Development Manager Hands-on manager responsible for managing personnel, schedules

and sample making for the largest brand’s product development needs. Cardinal Brands produced both

commercial and retail products to help end-users organize, store and archive items at home, work or school.

Product development responsibilities included: strategizing, establishing, designing, directing and maintaining product design direction. Developed new product concepts through research, demographics, sketching, CAD drawings and sample making. Refined new product concepts through consumer product testing focus groups and commercial/retail buyers’ reviews. Established specifications and processes for clear communication with overseas vendors during the product development and manufacturing stages.

Accomplishments

• Developed a storage and organization bag for the leading hobby/craft specialty store;

the initial order was for $1,000,000.

• Traveled to China to review products, manufacturing facilities and to ensure compliance

with product quality and procedures.

Good Manufacturing, Plainsville, IN 6/97 to 8/01

Senior Industrial Designer Conceptualized new products and redesigned existing products for

the world’s leading manufacturer of commercial supermarket refrigeration display cases, merchandisers

and beverage coolers. Responsible for design development and project management on all programs

including budgets, scheduling, pre-production timelines and client interface. Established design

direction and oversaw technical liaisons between design, engineering and manufacturing.

International project team responsibilities included: coordinating new product development; defining project investment requirements; obtaining part and tooling estimates; evaluating pilot production builds; approving molds/tools and first time parts; writing and maintaining project budgets and developing part specifications.

Accomplishments

• Appointed to International team to develop and present a new line of food, beverage

and snack merchandisers to Brazil’s largest customer (AmBev).

• Led a team of internal and external engineers, designers, toolmakers and molders

to update the Mexican bottle cooler line. Phase one redesign resulted in cost-savings from 5 to 20% depending on the specific model and features. Produced a project from concept through production by working with internal teams and OEM vendors. Stimulated cost savings by implementing new processes, materials, production methods and purchasing programs.

Accomplishments

• Awarded utility patent #5,835,344 on an integrated carrying case for portable computers.

• Self-directed proposal to improve the transfer of one- and two- color electronic files to

film and printing plate suppliers resulting in annual material savings of $100,000.

• Structurally redesigned a carton and worldwide internal kit. Annual material savings $275,000.

Good Tasting Company, Erie, PA 4/93 to 11/93

Senior Retail Package Specialist Developed and promoted various brands by providing print, design

and retail merchandise expertise to the product brand managers. Evaluated and implemented the most

effective printing method for each package substrate. Responsible for selecting and working with

pre-press, photography and creative vendors.

Know Manufacturing, Chesterton, PA 8/86 to 4/93

Merchandise/Design Manager Managed department responsible for developing creative methods

used to promote, merchandise and sell housewares storage products. Developed strategy and

implemented a cohesive marketing plan for retail, commercial and international divisions. Diversified

the brands and properly segmented each divisions’ products by developing product packaging and

specialized graphic support materials.

Prepared, negotiated and maintained budgets for all sales support materials developed. Specific items

developed included: packaging, POP displays, signage, product selling sheets, catalogs and brochures,

trade advertising, exhibit displays for national and international trade shows.
