October 16 – 19 WORLD GOSPEL ’97

This gospel festival will include international headliners CeCe Winans, Hezekiah Walker & the Love Fellowship Crusade Choir, Richard Smallwood & Vision and a tribute to Tramaine Hawkins. The location for this event is the Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium in Bridgetown.

1, 8 BARBADOS HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY’S ANNUAL OPEN GARDENS PROGRAM CONTINUES

15 - 22 HOLETOWN FESTIVAL

This week-long festival celebrates the arrival of the first settlers in February, 1627 to Barbados. There are performances by the Royal Barbados Police Force band and the mounted troops, as well as food stands, hymns and a carnival at the fairgrounds in Holetown, St. James.

21 - 22 BARBADOS HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY’S ANNUAL FLOWER SHOW

An exciting variety of exciting flowers and plants on display at the Balls Plantation. Members of regional Horticultural Societies are invited to participate. Entertainment will be provided by the Royal Barbados Police Band.

7 SANDY LANE BARBADOS GOLD CUP

This year will mark the 17th running of this prestigious event and brings together top class horses from Barbados, Martinique and Trinidad & Tobago. This invitational race will be held at the historic Garrison Savannah.

19 - April 8 HOLDERS SEASON

Founded in 1993, the Holders Season is an annual opera festival that showcases musical theater and opera that gained international acclaim as one of the premier cultural events in the Carribean. The season is a unique celebration of opera, music and theatre.

photography, painting, drawing, crafts, drama, creative writing and poetry. Finalists are featured during a gala presentation on Independence Day.

5,6 RUN BARBADOS ROAD RACE SERIES

Runners from all over the world come to Barbados to compete in this series comprised of a 10K race on December 5 and a marathon on December 6. The 10K is held in Bridgetown and the marathon race starts at the Grantley Adams International Airport and follows a coastal route that culminates at Heywoods in the northwest section of the island.
