Our Brake Valve is constructed from brass bar-stock. The valve disk is a lost wax casting of silicon bronze and combined with a Teflon valve seat minimizes by-pass leaking. It comes complete with inlet and outlet unions for 3/16" tube silver solder connections and is ready to install. Vent port is tapped 10-32. Spring and screws are stainless steel. Body diameter is 1-1/8". Height is approximately 2".

LOCOPARTS Whistle Valve utilizes a stainless steel ball against the bronze valve body seat. All parts are bronze, lost wax silicon bronze, brass and stainless steel. End connections are 1/8" pipe.

4-Chime Whistle is 1-1/2" diameter x approximately 12" long, constructed of a brass tube over a cast aluminum core. End connection is 5/16" silver solder union.

The Boiler Check Valve is fabricated from all brass bar stock. The valve uses a fluted shuttle seating against an o-ring seat. Outlet connection is 5/16" tube silver solder union. Boiler end is 1/8” pipe.

The Tender Hand Pump is made from castings of red brass, and trimmed with brass bar stock fittings and stainless steel fasteners. Outlet fittings are threaded 1/4" pipe. Piston diameter is 1". Approximate dimensions are 8" l x 3"w x 6" h.

[pic]The Tender Water Valve is one of the most unique items we offer. It comes complete with handwheel, and as with all our products, it is ready to install. To install, drill a 7/8" diameter hole in the tender bottom in the front end of the water leg (or wherever you may choose to place the valve) and match drill 6 clearance holes for 8-32 screws (not included). The valve is then inserted from the bottom. No more having to remove the top to remove and/or service the valve. When ordering, you must specify the outside distance between the bottom and the top as these valves are custom made upon order to suit your requirements. NOTE: Valves for Allen tenders are stock items.

The Gauge Glass is available as either the glass alone or as a complete assembly. The glass alone features male 5/16" MTP threads and pyrex glass. The assembly comes complete with valves and unions on both ends. The assembly measures 5-1/2” between union ends. The bottom end requires a 1/8" pipe threaded hole in the backhead. See note. Thereafter, when removing for service loosen the two unions and the whole assembly comes off. Glass size is ½”. NOTE: Backhead fitting ¼” IPS avail special order.

Unions

Unions are available. These are silver-solder ends, in 3/16” ($5.50), ¼”($6.00) and 5/16” ($6.50) tube sizes.

Large-scale Glass Assembly

This glass offers prototypical blowdown operation and will scale well with boilers of 10" in dia. and larger. It has been developed for the 2-1/2” and 3-3/4” scale engines but will be happy on any 1-1/2” scale Pacific, Hudson or Northern. Glass length shown in photo is 5" long, but this assembly is available in 4”, 5”, or 6” lengths and is made in both right-hand and left-hand models. Specify backhead thread of either 1/8” or ¼” IPS. Glass blowdown valve is not included, but hole for fitting is tapped 5/16” MTP. All models/glass lengths are the same price. Provided with top /bottom unions.

TENDERS

We currently offer Riveted tender kits in 5 different models, including, in order of size, Fitchburg-Northern, Allen Mogul/10-Wheeler/American(also suitable for the Little engines Swithcher and Mogul), Little engines Atlantic, Little Engines Pacific, and the large tender for large Hudsons/Pacifics/Texas Class engines. Specifications for these engines appear on their own page. These tenders are all CNC shaped and punched for all rivet holes. Tanks are fabricated from 16 ga. cold rolled steel, and the bottom is punched from 11 ga. cold rolled steel. Frame kits are also available. All tenders are available ready-to-run upon special order, as are the frames. Completed tenders are delivered coated on the inside and the exterior primed. Final color coat of automobile acrylic is available on special order. See separate specification sheet for other details. Photos here are of tenders under construction. These kits build into a riveted tender which will make any engine look good, and are typical of coal tenders of the early 20th century. They are closely copied from, but not true scale to, actual prototype tenders.

All efforts have been made to produce a tender kit that is of riveted construction, yet is excellent looking, both easy and fast to build. All sheet-metal panels have been CNC punched and formed to assure a kit that goes together easily and quickly. 99% of the time-consuming drilling has been done for you!

Brass Flanged-Case Pressure and Vacuum Gauges

These gauges will really set off your engine! Available in 0-200 psi or 0-30 hg vacuum. Gauge cases are 1-13/16” dia. X 1-1/16” thick and are CNC machined. Mounting thread is 1/8” ips.

Boiler Safety Valve

Valves are CNC machined from brass bar. Preset to approximately 120 psi with reset at approximately 10 psi. Available in either 1/8” or ¼” ips mounting threads.

Hook-up Package for gas burner manifolds

This package includes all you need to hook up and install your new gas burner manifold: Dual gauge regulator, all fittings, regulation flammable gas valve, and hose. The only item not provided is a length of 5/16” copper tube to run between the valve and the manifold. This is not provided as it is an installation-dependent item. The copper tube can be provided upon request. Price: $150.00

Mechanical Lubricator

The new LOCOPARTS mechanical lubricator is a work of art, and works accordingly! The body is powder-coated steel tube. Using clutch bearings, it is dual feed for reliability. Dual outlet connections are 1/8” tube compression fittings. This lubricator is made for mounting under the running board as the top is made to slide rather than open vertically., but if it desired to locate it elsewhere, you may remove the mounting bracket and fasten it as needed to accommodate your preferred mounting. We generally machine out an opening in the running board approximately 1-1/4” square and mount the lubricator under there. In use, to fill you slide the top back, fill, and then return the top to its closed position. Available in 2 sizes: 1-1/2” square x 2-3/8 “ high, and 2” square x “ high. NOTE: The photo is the prototype. On the production lubricator the lever arm and the top are CNC machined and then polished.

Whistle Mounting Rings

These rings are CNC machined from aluminum plate and are made to fit the Locoparts whistle with a 1-1/2” brass tube. Price: $25.00/pair

Clecos

Clecos are temporary sheet metal fasteners generally used when riveting 2 or more pieces of sheet metal together. For use in building tenders, rolling stock, cabs, or any part of a model steam locomotive requiring the riveting of parts, these are invaluable. They are reuseable as long as you don’t destroy them by abusing them. We offer then in 2 different sized packages, both packages come with a set of Cleco pliers( nothing else will work with these).

Handrail Stanchions

These handrail stanchions are machined from brass bar, are approximately 1-3/16” long with a 3/16” diameter hole in the ball for the handrail, and are tapped at the bottom 8-32.

Steam Ejector

A steam ejector is used to convert steam pressure from the manifold to vacuum for use with vacuum brakes for your tender and/or train. The ejector is machined from brass bar, is approximately 1-1/4” long, has ¼-28 male threads on both the steam inlet and outlet connections, and a vacuum tube connection 3-1/6” diameter.

The copper tube is included in the group price at no charge. Note that the tube provided is standard copper refrigeration-type tubing and will be provided in a coil. This is the same tube we use here at Locoparts for plumbing an engine, and should be used only with silver-soldered joints. It does not thread well, and is not recommended by us for this service.

Note: We do not manufacture injectors and injector starting valves, cylinder cocks and vent valve, and manifold valves. We highly recommend SuperScale for these items.

Gas Burners

Shown is a gas burner for an Allen engine. All assemblies are similar in construction. The manifolds are TIG welded and pressure tested against gas leaks. The individual burners are rated at approximately 5400btu each. All gas burners are custom made to suit the application. Contact us for prices and delivery. The gas jets only are available for $12.00 ( minimum sold is 4) each plus shipping, and are generally in stock.

Grates

Grates are fabricated from 304 stainless steel bar and TIG welded. Grates for Allen engines are 2 piece, and grates for LE engines are 3 piece. Note: these grates will last a long time if properly cared for, i.e., if the ash pan is dumped on a regular basis and ashes not allowed to accumulate until they touch the grates. If this condition is allowed to occur, all grates, regardless of material, will rapidly burn out. For this reason, there is no warranty on grates after they have been used.

Custom Items for Allen Engines

We can provide almost any part for Allen engines. Shown are the custom ash pans ($350) and pilots ($450) that we make. The ash pan is 16 ga. (or heavier) stainless, TIG welded, with a sliding bottom. This must be installed prior to the boiler as it bolts to the frame rather than the mudring. The actuating lever is then located on the floor of the cab. The pilot shown is a fire-tube pilot and really sets the engine off, in addition to being almost indestructible. We can also provide expansion links and dies ( $250 per set). These are hardened tool steel. We also offer a fully equalized lead truck for the Allen Mogul. Addition of this truck eliminates most derailing problems with the engine. Call us with your specific requirements.

All items are shipped via USPS or UPS (our choice). Please add the following for packaging/shipping/insurance: for all items EXCEPT grates and hand pump, add $10 east of the Mississippi, and $12 west of the Mississippi. For grates and pump, add $16 for all locations.

We guarantee complete customer satisfaction of our products or items can be returned postpaid in the same condition received (new and unused in any form) for refund or exchange. All items are manufactured using the finest materials and are warranted against any material and manufacturing flaws for a period of 30 days after receipt. Any and all warranties, written and implied, are voided if items have been disassembled, abused and/or modified in any way.

We do not sell kits or drawings for any of our products other than the hand pump and 4-chime whistle: all other items are sold as RFI…ready for installation.

Prices: Since most of our items are labor intensive, and I provide that labor, the prices are fairly stable. I am making a transition to lost wax and sand castings for several items and of course have no control over the cost to me of these and other raw materials, so prices may occasionally change without notice.

With the exception of tenders, gas burner assemblies and most Allen engine assemblies, I attempt to have all items in stock at all times. Sometimes I may be out of what you want. If this is the case you will be notified of the expected shipping date, and at your option, I will ship when available or send your money back. In any case, I will not cash your check until I have the item ready to ship. In most cases, I ship no later than the next day after receipt of your order.
