A new chapter is about to start

DePauw University is continually looking for ways to help you make the most of your retirement savings. In 2014, TIAA became the single recordkeeper for the DePauw University 403(b) Retirement Plan. At that time, your existing balance in the 403(b) Retirement Plan remained in place at Fidelity, but no new contributions to Fidelity were permitted after November 14, 2014. After careful consideration and a review of the retirement program, the University has decided to move your existing balance with Fidelity in the 403(b) Retirement Plan to the 403(b) Retirement Plan with TIAA.

What you need to know

Your 403(b) Retirement Plan account currently with Fidelity will be transferred to TIAA. If you already have a DePauw University 403(b) Retirement Plan account at TIAA, your account balance at Fidelity will be transferred to your account at TIAA. If you do not have a DePauw University 403(b) Retirement Plan account at TIAA, a new account will be established for you.

If you wish to continue investing with Fidelity, you may use the TIAA Brokerage Service option, once your balance has transferred to TIAA.

1 TIAA Traditional Annuity is a guaranteed insurance contract and not an investment for federal securities law purposes. Any guarantees under annuities issued by TIAA are subject to TIAA's claims-paying ability. Interest credited includes a guaranteed rate, plus additional amounts as may be established by the TIAA Board of Trustees. Such additional amounts, when declared, remain in effect for the "declaration year" which begins each March 1 for accumulating annuities and January 1 for payout annuities. Additional amounts are not guaranteed for periods other than the period for which they were declared.

Investment products may be subject to market and other risk factors. See the applicable product literature, or visit depauw for details.

Annuity account options are available through annuity contracts issued by TIAA or CREF. These contracts are designed for retirement or other long-term goals, and offer a variety of income options, including lifetime income. Payments from the variable annuity accounts are not guaranteed and will rise or fall based on investment performance.

What to expect

On March 15, 2017, your balance in the 403(b) Retirement Plan with Fidelity will be transferred to your 403(b) Retirement Plan account with TIAA and invested according to your current allocations.

If you do not have a 403(b) Retirement Plan account at TIAA, a new account will be established for you on March 10, 2017, and an enrollment confirmation will be sent. Your existing balance with Fidelity will be invested into the JPMorgan SmartRetirement fund that corresponds to the year you turn 65 (as shown in the chart below). Account access information is provided on the back cover of this guide.

Blackout Period To help ensure the smooth transfer of account balance(s) from Fidelity, there will be a brief Blackout Period. During this time, you will not be able to perform transactions (i.e., change investments, make withdrawals, take a loan, transfer funds, etc.). The Blackout Period is expected to begin at Fidelity on March 7, 2017, at 4 p.m. (ET) for new withdrawal requests and on March 14, 2017, at 4.p.m (ET) for all other transactions. See the enclosed Blackout notice for more details.

How your account balance(s) will transfer Account balances from Fidelity will be applied to your plan accounts on or before March 29, 2017, depending upon when TIAA receives your balances from Fidelity in good order. As part of the transfer, your account will not be invested in the new funds for up to two business days. Your balance will be applied first to the TIAA-CREF Money Market Fund at TIAA on or around March 15, 2017, then transferred from the TIAA-CREF Money Market Fund to your allocations on file on or around March 16, 2017. If no allocations have been selected, balances will be transferred to the default age-appropriate JPMorgan SmartRetirement fund as directed by DePauw University and shown in the chart below.

Typically, you'll receive three confirmations: One from Fidelity showing the transfer out of your account, one from TIAA for the transfer to the TIAA-CREF Money Market Fund and another one from TIAA for the transfer to your allocation on file or the ageappropriate JPMorgan SmartRetirement fund.
