Cardiology

Cardiology

The department was found in November 2006, accepts and treats patients with all forms of cardiological and vascular diseases, providing medication therapy or interventional treatments for: ischemic heart diseases including its most serious form acute myocardial infarction, heart valve diseases, pericarditsis, rhythmic heart disorders, arterial hypertony, acute and chronic heart failure, pathology of peripheral arteries especially (stenosis) narrowing of the carotid and renal arteries, and arterial and venous malformations.

The department provides modern invasive cardiology which is a high-technology based specialty, which includes a wide range of procedures that are the gold standard in diagnostics and ensure effective and non-traumatic treatments of the majority of cardiovascular diseases.

From the beginning of September 2007, our hospital admits and treats emergency heart attack patients. Our hospital already has already been included on the National Health Ministry list which emergency response teams send patients with acute myocardial infarctions. Tokuda Hospital Sofia is the first private hospital in the country to be included in the emergency list and offers primary angioplasties. This is the most contemporary and effective treatment method for heart attack patients and the department uses specialized Japanese catheters to aspirate thromboses.

Out-patient Care

The Cardiology Diagnostic-Consultation Center consists of four consultation offices, a cardiac function sector, and electrocardiostimulation sector. The organization of the consultation sector facilitates a multi-disciplinary approach and quick consultation with doctors of all required medical specialties. The cardiological consultation offices in Tokuda Hospital Sofia offer out-patient diagnostics and monitoring of all forms of cardio-vascular diseases using the most contemporary and high-tech methodologies.

The cardiology function center performs highly specialized examinations including:

• Working (exercise) ECG test- on the veloergometer or treadmill

• Holter ECG monitoring

• 24 hour monitoring of arterial blood pressure

• Venous Doppler examinations of the lower extremities

• Echo-cardiography including transesphogeal

The consultation offices are equipped with the latest generation of echographic equipment (General Electric Vivid 7) with unique diagnostic functions.

In-patient Care

The invasive cardiology department has a dedicated section of the hospital including 41 hospital beds, central air conditioned rooms, ten private rooms, and three luxurious apartment styled rooms with all the comforts of home including a kitchen and ample room for a companion to join the patient during the recovery process.

Equipment

The department has at its disposal two angiograph laboratories, equipped with the latest generation of bi-plane angiographic apparatuses. The contemporary equipment allows the team to conduct all types of highly specialized invasive vascular examinations and procedures including:

• Cardiac Catheterization

• Angiography of coronary, cerebral, peripheral, renal and visceral arteries

• Selective pulmonoangiography

• Intravascular ultrasound

• Percutaneous coronary interventions

• Percutaneous valvuloplasty of the mitral and aortic valves

• Cavography

• Pacemaker implantation

• Two-chambered cardiostimulation resynchronization therapy

• Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) implantation

The department also performs other relativity new and highly specialized vascular procedures, which are unique to the region and require highly specialized equipment including: endoaortic prosthesis, carotid stenting, angioplasty of the peripheral, visceral, and renal arteries, rotoblation, A-V fistulas closing with a coil, endomyocardial biopsies, embolization (in the case of treating vascular tumors), vena cave inferior filter implantation due to pulmonary thromboembolism, BTE and others.

Medical Analysis and Interventions

Functional Sector:

The sector conducts highly specialized examinations including Working (exercise) ECG test on the veloergometer or treadmill, holter ECG monitoring, 24 hour monitoring of arterial blood pressure

Doppler sonogram of cerebral, peripheral and renal arteries, venous Doppler examinations of the lower extremities, echo-cardiography including transesphogeal. The offices are equipped with the latest generation of echographic equipment (General Electric Vivid 7) with unique diagnostic functions.

Angiographic Sector:

The angiographic sector of the cardiology department has two angiograph laboratories, equipped with the latest generation of bi-plane angiographic apparatuses. The sector performs over 200 diagnostic and invasive procedures monthly including: balloon dilation, stent implantation and intravascular prosthesis according to the latest globally recognized modern methods and techniques.

We perform a wide range of highly specialized invasive cardiologic and vascular examinations and therapeutic procedures:

• Cardiac catheterization

• Angiography of coronary, cerebral, peripheral, renal and visceral arteries

• Selective pulmonoangiography

• Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)

• Percutaneous coronary interventions

• Cavography

• Pacemaker implantation

• Two-chambered cardiostimulation resynchronization therapy

• Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) implantation

In our daily practice, we routinely perform the leading new and highly specialized vascular procedures, which are unique to the region and require highly specialized equipment including:

• Endoaortic prosthesis

• Carotid stenting

• Lazer arterectomy

• Angioplasty of the peripheral, visceral, and renal arteries

• A-V fistulas closures

• Endomyocardial biopsies

• Embolization to treating vascular tumors

• Vena cava inferior filter implantation due to pulmonary thromboembolism PTE and others.
