Introit:

"God of Grace and God of Glory"

UMH #577

1. God of grace and God of glory, on thy people pour thy power; crown thine ancient church's story; bring her bud to glorious flower. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the facing of this hour, (of this hour) for the facing of this hour.

*Call to Worship

Leader: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

People: He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

Leader: He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his names's sake.

People: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Leader: Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

People: Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

*Opening Prayer

Book of Worship #462

Our heavenly Father, we your humble children invoke your blessing on us. We adore you, whose name is love, whose nature is compassion, whose presence is joy, whose Word is truth, whose Spirit is goodness, whose holiness is beauty, whose will is peace, whose service is perfect freedom and in knowledge of whom stands our eternal life. Unto you be all honor and all glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hymn of Praise:

"O Worship the King"

UMH #73

1. O worship the King, all glorious above, O gratefully sing God's power and God's love; our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days, pavilioned in splendor, and girded with praise.

2. O tell of God's might, O sing of God's grace, whose robe is the light, whose canopy space, whose chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form, and dark is God's path on the wings of the storm.

Prayer for Illumination:

Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that, as the Scriptures are read and your Word proclaimed, we may hear with joy what you say to us today. Amen.

New Testament Lesson:

I John 3:1-6

1See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be

called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2Dear friends, now we are children

of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know

that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. 4Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5But you

know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues

to sin has either seen him or known him.

Gospel Lesson

John 14:5-14

5Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how

can we know the way?"

6Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to

the Father except through me. 7If you really know me, you will know my

Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."

8Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us."

9Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been

among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the

Father. How can you say, `Show us the Father'? 10Don't you believe that I

am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do

not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is

doing his work. 11Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the

Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works

themselves. 12Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works

I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these,

because I am going to the Father. 13And I will do whatever you ask in my

name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14You may ask me for

anything in my name, and I will do it.

Hymn of Meditation: "Just as I Am, Without One Plea" UMH #357

1. Just as I am, without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me, and that thou bidst me come to thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

5. Just as I am, thou wilt receive, wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve; because thy promise I believe, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Affirmation of Faith:

Apostle's Creed

UMH #881

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and was buried*; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic** church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Offertory Prayer

*Doxology: "Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow" UMH #95

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost, Amen.

Pastoral Prayer

Lord's Prayer: Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Hymn of Celebration: "Where He Leads Me"

UMH #338

1. I can hear my Savior calling, I can hear my Savior calling, I can hear my Savior calling, "Take thy cross and follow, follow me." Where he leads

me I will follow, where he leads me I will follow, where he leads me I will follow; I'll go with him, with him all the way

4. He will give me grace and glory, he will give me grace and glory, he will give me grace and glory, and go with me, with me all the way. Where he leads me I will follow, where he leads me I will follow, where he leads me I will follow; I'll go with him, with him all the way.
