Introit:

"He Is Lord"

UMH #177

1. He is Lord, he is Lord! He is risen from the dead and he is Lord! Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

*Call to Worship (Based on 1 Corinthians 12)

Pastor: There are many gifts, talents, and abilities given by God. People: But there is only one Spirit. Pastor: There are a variety of things we can do to serve the Lord. People: But it is the same Lord we all serve. Pastor: There are many activities we can do to serve God: teach, sing, clean, preach, play, work... People: But all these are activated by God. Pastor: There are many manifestations of God's Spirit in the world. People: It is impossible to list them all. Pastor: To say that one is better than another is foolish. People: God gives to each as God chooses. Together: Thanks be to God!

*Opening Prayer:

Gracious and loving God, source of all wholeness, forgiveness, and mercy, may your Spirit heal those who are torn, mend those who are broken, and protect those who are fragile. Enable us, O God, through the gift of your steadfast love, to remember who we are and whose we are. In your love, may we be true and faithful disciples of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose name we pray. Amen.

Hymn of Praise:

"O Jesus, I Have Promised"

UMH #396 Verse 1& 4

1. O Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end; be thou forever near me, my Master and my friend, I shall not fear the battle if thou art by my side, nor wander from the pathway if thou wilt be my guide.

4. O Jesus, thou hast promised to all who follow thee that where thou art in glory there shall thy servant be. And Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end; O give me grace to follow, my Master and my Friend.

Prayer for Illumination: Gracious God, by the power of the Holy Spirit, quicken our understanding that we may receive the testimony of Scripture and believe in the signs that reveal your presence, we pray in Jesus' name. Amen.

Epistles Lesson

1 Corinthians 12:1-11

1Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant.

2You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were

influenced and led astray to mute idols. 3Therefore I tell you that no one

who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no

one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. 4There are

different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5There are different kinds of

service, but the same Lord. 6There are different kinds of working, but the

same God works all of them in all men. 7Now to each one the

manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8To one there is

given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message

of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same

Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10to another

miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing

between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to

still another the interpretation of tongues. 11All these are the work of one

and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he

determines.

Gospel Lesson:

John 2:1-11

1 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, 2and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine." 4"Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied. "My time has not yet come." 5His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." 6Nearby stood six stone water jars,

the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. 7Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with

water"; so they filled them to the brim. 8Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, 9and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guest have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now." 11This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.

"The Good Stuff"

RESPONSE TO THE WORD

Affirmation of Faith

Apostles' Creed

UMH 881

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

An Order for the Recognition of Leaders in the Church

(Book of Worship page 599-601)

Dear friends, you have been called by God and chosen by the people of God for leadership in the church. This ministry is a blessing and a serious responsibility. It recognizes your special gifts and calls you to work among us and for us. In love we thank you for accepting your obligation and challenge you to offer your best to the Lord, to this people, and to our ministry in the world. Live a life in Christ and make him known in your witness and your work. Today we recognize all leaders of the church.

Do you this day acknowledge yourself a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ? I do.

Will you devote yourself to the service of God in the world? I will.

Will you so live that you enable this church to be a people of love and peace? I will.

Will you do all in your power to be responsible to the task for which you have been chosen? I will.

Let us pray. Almighty God, pour out your blessings upon these your servants who have been given particular ministries in your church. Grant them grace to give themselves wholeheartedly in your service. Keep before them the example of our Lord, who did not think first of himself, but gave himself for us all. Let them share his ministry and consecration, that they may enter into his joy. Guide them in their work. Reward their faithfulness with the knowledge that through them your purposes are accomplished; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The pastor addresses the congregation: Dear friends, rejoice that God provides laborers for the vineyards. Will you do all you can to assist and encourage them in the responsibilities to which they have been called, giving them your cooperation, your counsel, and your prayers?

The congregation responds: We will.

Offertory

*Doxology: "Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow" UMH 95

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost, Amen.

Pastoral Prayer and The Lord's Prayer:

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Hymn of Celebration: "Take My Life, and Let It Be"

UMH #399 Verse 1 & 3

1. Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to thee. Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise. Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of thy love. Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for thee.

3. Take my will, and make it thine; it shall be no longer mine. Take my heart, it is thine own; it shall be thy royal throne. Take my love, my Lord, I pour at thy feet its treasure store. Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for thee.
