Description: After appropriate study and/or practice, the student will be able apply the nursing process in the administration of medications for each body system with special

emphasis on the physiological of the respiratory system. In addition, will identify therapeutic and pharmacologic drug classifications, including and the mechanism of action on

gastrointestinal system and explain the pathological changes that may be produced by certain categories of drugs related to the gastrointestinal system.

Objectives

Identify anatomical structures associated with

the lower respiratory tract and their functions.

Explain how the autonomic nervous system

regulates airflow in the lower respiratory tract,

and how this can be modified with drugs.

Compare the advantages and disadvantages of

using the inhalation route of drug

administration for pulmonary drugs.

Describe the types of devices used to deliver

aerosol therapies via the inhalation route.

Compare and contrast the pharmacotherapy of

acute and chronic asthma.

Describe the nurse¡¯s role in the pharmacologic

treatment of lower respiratory tract disorders.

their mechanisms of drug action, primary

actions on the respiratory system, and

important adverse effects.
