The brightest brickChapter 1 a bad beginning It is me Georgie Banks, I am here to report the case of Rowan Hardware’s death. Auntie Aggie insists on it. It all happened 32 years ago on Tuesday. Rowan led me to a tall dark house where children in ragged clothes were seated. I started to suspect the prophecy as I turned paces up and down the old once beautiful muddy path. At the end of the path all tucked away under leaves and vines there stood an ancient cathedral. It was dark inside. I clutched Rowan’s hand trying to hold my breath as the smell of the candles were very strong. It was cold inside in spite of how warm it was outside. A slight wind bashing against the dusty gold gave a sinister affect. I told Rowan we should go but she said we should investigate in an echoing voice. I said it might not be safe and that I was scared but no sooner had she gone. It was getting late so one hour later I went to look for her. I found her in front of the alter. Eyes closed, lips sealed, motionless, AND then, and only then, I knew she was dead. I felt a pain in my leg it dragged me down but did not stop me. I could not see the person only a shadow although I think it was someone I knew. We were only 16 at the time and I didn’t know what to do. I ran about screaming for help for roughly half an hour. Half an hour later I thought of something! I dialled her great Auntie’s number. She was a kind lady around the age of 60, she was always very jolly and asked me round for tea a lot. She wore a thick hand knitted cardigan always. She was very good at knitting and had knitted various things for me.Chapter 2 a surprise for GeorgieAuntie Aggie as we call her picked up straight away as her telephone never rings so she knew it must be urgent. I told her all I’ve told you so far and how Rowan had gone and not come back. She told me she would be would be here soon then suddenly so suddenly hung up. When we were in her vintage car which I love she says it’s from when she was a child. We hardly spoke just a few shear tears and a couple of words which were hard to make out, then just more sobbing. When we got to her house around half an hour later she said she had something important to tell me something which was maybe going to be hard and dangerous. So once she had wrapped me up in one of her knitted blankets and seated me in a massive armchair with a mug of her delicious hot coco. I was willing to know what it was she was going to tell me. She said it casually there and then she said we are going to s-solve this c-c-case. And that was it the words were out, they were spilled. Next day after a long hard think about what had happened yesterday and a big yummy breakfast. Auntie Aggie came knocking on the door it was mid morning by now. She said in a low quivering voice let’s go back to that cathedral and see what clues we can find. I got all excited and jumped up and down with glee, when I was little I always wished I was a detective.Chapter 3 the strange sprinkled seedsWhen we got there Auntie Aggie told me to start by looking in front and around the area Rowans body was. She also said I should mark the space where her body had been with a chalk because the Paramedics were going to run tests on it. It was all so exciting but extremely confusing too, though I didn’t bother fussing. She gave me a little plastic lunch bag to put any clues in,a couple of old washing up gloves and an old piece of glass tide to a rough, bumpy stick. Carefully without any fuss she turned on her heel and said remember I’ll be on the path if you need me. Once she was out of sight I unfolded the things she had given me. And scanned the area in search for something. I didn’t know what but I knew the murderer would have left something. So I got the thing which I supposed was a magnifying glass and traipsing so I did not pick anything up on my shoes because they had sticky bits on the bottom. After a long time of looking I finally found a couple of seeds they were scattered out beside the alters edge. I had just found it when Auntie Aggie came bursting into the cathedral a great big grin on her face, I knew we were onto something. Chapter 4 an interesting interviewShe said that it was time for us to interview a few people. She also said that she had looked through Rowan’s phone and all and chosen the people she had texted lately, and the people she had seen recently. Also the people she worked with. She said she had arranged for us all to meet at Steppingly park. She then swept the floor with the end of her long elegant skirt and told me to follow so reluctantly I did. Steppingly park was not too far so we walked there. When we got there gathered around an old oak tree were several people I knew. My hands went all sweaty and I got all tense there was a criminal in the same circle as me. Then Auntie Aggie started to talk and went on into all this adult chit-chat. After around ten minutes she told me to start asking questions, then nudged me and handed me a script. I asked them all where they had been at the time of the murder, Ginny Fisher replied she had been at school studying extra hours, after a long session of remembering where he had been at the time Ronald said he had been in the bath trying to shoo away a spider that was apparently big and hairy. Luna said she was at home and Neville said he was going for a walk in the woods. I try to remember the other questions now but hard as I try I can’t. All of it is a gigantic blur to me 32 years later. But I do remember Luna going right then that’s it now and then Neville saying o an I expect you ain’t be inerviewin us agen. I said no and then all the people went away. Auntie Aggie said we should look for more evidence.Chapter 5 The clever clue masterMeanwhile the Paramedics were running lots and lots of tests on Rowans body and the results came through the next morning I was so excited when Auntie Aggie told me how she had died, It was an unusual way. SOMEONE HAD put a brick on her neck only to brake it. Now I knew What the last piece of evidence we were looking for was, a MISSING brick. Auntie Aggie gaveMe a job which I found very important. All these years later I still remember what it was. Shetold me I ought to go around all the suspects houses and check the walls or look under anything covered up. This was easy for me because I was short and slim so if needed I could hide at any moment. I got up early the next day determined to look for a missing brick. First I looked in and outside Ginny’s house and then all the others. In Luna’s house in the last nook and the last crannyI FOUND IT THE BRICK! It was great, I was so excited to go to Auntie Aggie to say I knew whoit was when I remembered the seeds, who could have dropped them? It was Neville of course. Next day after I’d told Auntie Aggie, she arranged for all the suspects to meet at the park. When we were all there at the park I said who it was. The answer is Neville & Luna. They did it like this: Luna was one of Rowans greatest friends but she was also one of Rowans laziest friends. One morning Luna decided she did not want to work anymore and threatened Rowan. She said if you do not give me the money you earn at work I will hurt you.Luna was now doing a grumpy face and her arms were crossed. When Rowan did not transfer the money she was unhappy very unhappy indeed. She could barely hold her temper she got so cross she couldn’t stand it anymore. So next day she got a saw from her garden shed and cut a brick out from behind the poster in her bedroom thinking nobody would find the missing brick. Neville is Luna’s little brother and he was told he had to listen to Luna. He was only nine so decided to listen to Luna even though he was so scared. Now Neville loves birds and always keeps a handful of bird seeds in his pocket to feed to the birds. He was so worried he could not contain himself and when he was trying to run away from the problem the seeds fell out of his pocket.Chapter 6 the endI hope you have enjoyed your time listening to this story because I have enjoyed telling you it. And you know reader, before we caught Luna she ran away and it was an hour till we foundher! Hope you enjoyed my story from gb ................
