Beloved vintage and contemporary Christmas movies have inspired float themes for the 37th annual Ford Holiday River Parade, held on November 24th on the downtown River Walk. Each of the 28 floats will bring to life the 2017 theme, Christmas at the Movies, with lights, décor and costumed float riders. This family-friendly event is held each year the day after Thanksgiving.Cheryl Ladd will serve as the Grand Marshal. Ladd is most famous for her role as a Charlie’s Angel in the popular television series that ran for ten seasons from 1976 through 1981. Ladd also played Mrs. Claus in the 2012 adored Disney movie Santa Paws 2 featuring four adorable puppies trying to save Christmas around the world. The Grand Marshal float décor will be patterned after the movie and feature talented young singers from the Las Casas Foundation.Ladd lives in the greater San Antonio area and remains active in movies, television, and theater. She and her husband formed Cheryl Ladd Signature Homes where they design and build homes in Cordillera Ranch and the Canyons at Scenic Loop. She serves as an ambassador for Childhelp, a national nonprofit dedicated to the research and prevention of child abuse. She organizes an annual charity golf tournament to benefit Childhelp. Locally, Ladd serves on the Board of Directors of the Las Casas Foundation for the performing arts.The 2016 Ford Holiday River Parade sold out in both individual ticket sales and dinner packages. An estimated 50,000 people attended the 2016 event. Tickets for the 2017 Ford Holiday River Parade went on sale in July. All tickets are sold online at It will take approximately one-hour to view the 28-float parade. What time a person sees the first float depends on the seat location on the three-mile parade route. An online map features clocks along the parade route so people can estimate when the first float will appear where they are seated. The map also shows ADA access to the river. The map also displays seven free seating areas sponsored by Santikos Entertainment. The free seating area will accommodate approximately 1,000 people and is available on a first come first serve basis.
