Dear Students, I do not take lightly this enormous opportunity to enlighten some and refresh the memories of others while sharing a few of the many strengths of this great University. From its initial founding, Virginia Union University has exhibited strength as it offered students an excellent education and an opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills and disposition to be successful in life. The focus has been and still is on intellectual discipline, competence, and commitment. Virginia Union University's commitment to students is at the core of its mission. The University develops successful leaders and citizens through social, developmental, financial and academic support, cultural awareness and diversity. Our academic programs are broad enough to inspire a range of interests, yet specialized enough to prepare students for advanced study or immediate entry into a chosen field. Our strength also lies in our dedicated faculty, services provided to students through the untiring efforts of our staff and multi-faceted involvement of the Richmond Community in many of our endeavors. Virginia Union University is a premier liberal arts urban institution of higher education and center of excellence for the preparation of students and development of leaders for tomorrow's world.

Virginia Union University is nourished by its African American and Christian heritage and energized by a commitment to excellence and diversity. Its mission is to: 1) Provide a nurturing intellectually challenging and spiritually enriching environment for learning; 2) Empower students to develop strong moral values for success; and 3) Develop scholars, leaders, and lifelong learners of a global society. ACCREDITATION OF THE UNIVERSITY

Virginia Union University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097: Telephone number 404-679-4500, () to award Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Social Work, Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Christian Education, and Doctor of Ministry. Undergraduate and graduate programs also are accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada, the Association of Collegiate Business Schools, the Council on Social Work Education, and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. The University is a Member of the United Negro College Fund. The Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada, 10 Summit Park Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15275-1103, Telephone Number: 412-788-6505 to award the Master of Divinity and the Doctor of Ministry Degrees. The School of Theology is a member of the Richmond Theological Consortium and The Washington Theological Consortium.
