X32 internal plugins use for all latency critical applications (Pitch Shifter, Chorus, parallel compression). External Reverb plugins use, where latencies of up to 15ms are hardly noticable (Reverb, Delay). Plugin-host software on PC / MAC could be Live Professor, WAVES Multirack, DAWs...

In analog times some chose Lexicon as outboard unit for reverbs, DBX for compressors, Roland as chorus, TC on Delay and so on. There are ways to achieve similar freedom in the digital world (for a lot less money!).

Important here is latency time induced by the soundcard and PC/MAC calculation. Especially for inserted signalprocessing more than 5ms roundtrip latency, i.e. delay from signal In to signal out, will be audible, and, especially for in-ear-monitoring starting to be annoying. For parallel signalprocessing, like adding reverb or delays, this is uncritical and hardly to be noticed.
