This is an advertisement for the 2017 Dodge Charger Pursuit, found in the August 2017 edition of Police: The Law Enforcement Magazine. The target audience is police officers. The message is pretty clear: the car has many technological gadgets which can assist in the capture of criminals, observing suspicious activities, and keeping officers safe. I think this is a good example of how cars impact not only our transportation, but our society as a whole. No longer are cars simply used for joyrides as they were in the early 1900’s. They’re now being used to help keep our cities safer. The car is shown in what appears to be a rough city street, sending a message that this car is to be used for action, and that it will be reliable when times get tough. Reliability is a main factor in choosing any car today, as opposed to the 1900’s when cars would regularly get stuck on the roads, as noted in Car Country. The technological advancements we have made in our automobiles are seen clearly in this advertisement.“Volkswagen Tiguan Advert: Car Karaoke”The source of this ad is from YouTube, uploaded December 22nd, 2016. The ad showcases a family stuck in traffic, and they start singing along to the song playing from the girl’s playlist. Another family in a different car looks at them like they’re crazy, but the family is having too good of a time to notice. As the song ends, the GPS in the car notifies them that there’s a better route to take, and they go speeding along the new route, leaving the traffic behind them. I think that the ad is trying appeal to families and young people. The ad has a fun, upbeat tone and makes light of day-to-day problems using the new technology they have created for it. In our class discussions, we’ve talked about how traffic has always been a problem, no matter how many roads we create. The fact that the ad centers around the fact that there’s traffic in an attempt to relate to everyday life confirms the fact that not much has changed in that respect. It appears the ad is trying to merely deal with the problem as opposed to fixing it. I found it odd that nothing was mentioned about the car as a vehicle- it only showed the new technological gadgets it has. Perhaps this says something about our cars in general today- they are assumed to all be so safe and reliable that differences between those features would be insignificant. ................
