JOB DESCRIPTION - EFCA



PRIMARY OBJECTIVE(S) OF POSITION

Provide leadership and coordination of accounting operations, treasury management, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance functions to ensure that excellent accounting services are provided to the management, employees, and constituents of the EFCA.

KEY RESULT AREAS

1. Provide leadership and guidance to the Accounting department staff that contributes to the mission of the EFCA and the Accounting department: by distributing responsibilities appropriately, ensuring that each person is adequately resourced, and providing opportunities for vocational growth and development whenever possible. Develop and maintain good inter-department and intra-department teamwork and unity. Appraise the performance of each direct report formally on an annual basis and informally on an on-going basis.

2. Provide useful information to decision-makers within the EFCA, including the Senior VP of Finance & Operations (SVPFO), the President’s Council, the board, and budget managers.

a. Communicate cash flow, financial statement analysis, and other pertinent information to the SVPFO on a monthly or quarterly basis. Provide monthly reports to budget managers as requested; provide ongoing development of useful financial reporting.

b. Coordinate the annual budget preparation process and provide requested or advisory financial analysis to the SVPFO.

c. Coordinate the annual financial statement audit to ensure a timely and efficient audit and the issuance of timely audited financial statements; serve as the principal interface with external auditors.

3. Work on behalf of the SVPFO to develop and maintain procedures that contribute to the following:

a. Safeguard the financial assets of the EFCA and any related entities. Advise the SVPFO of any new or revised procedures that could be adopted by non-Accounting staff that would enhance existing safeguards.

b. Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and all applicable governmental or regulatory agencies.

c. Fulfill the fiduciary responsibilities to all beneficiaries of assets held in trust by the EFCA.

4. Develop and maintain procedures that ensure the business continuation of all Accounting department responsibilities. Ensure that all Accounting department policies and procedures are fully documented and updated on at least an annual basis.

5. Ensure that Accounting department overhead costs provide maximum value for the smallest amount possible.

6. Other duties as assigned, including:

a. Respond to accounting and tax questions from pastors and other personnel of EFCA churches, providing information and resources as appropriate.

b. Serve as back-up for certain duties of the SVPFO and for each direct report.

KEY SKILL REQUIREMENTS

1. Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

1. Demonstrate ability to lead by example and manage others effectively

2. Perform on-time employee evaluations that accurately reflect employee performance and any opportunities for improvement and/or development

3. Provide direction to and be responsible for the work of the Financial Operations Manager, Payroll Accountant, International Accountant, and Trust Accountant. Ensure that the Financial Operations Manager provides direction to and is responsible for the work of the Financial Operations Accountant, Purchase Card Administrator, and Accounts Payable Administrator.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

1. Committed personal relationship with Jesus Christ

2. Current CPA credentials

3. Five years accounting experience (non-profit, public, or private audit)

4. Five years accounting experience with non-profit organization having a budget equal to or greater than $5 million

5. Five years experience leading a multi-level team as an accounting director or manager

6. Five years experience preparing financial statements and interfacing with external auditors

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Ability to spend more than 50% of work time seated, using a keyboard and looking at a computer screen.

2. Ability and willingness to travel overnight approximately 5% of the time to accomplish position objectives.
