WALKING THE BEST OF THE LAKE DISTRICTWindermere – Coniston – Grasmere - WindermereMonday 6th – Thursday 9th September 2021 4 Days / 3 nights Activity Level – ‘Moderate’ 5 - 6 hours walking each day. Mixed terrain.This is the ultimate low level circular route around the very loveliest parts of the Lake District. The views and sights in the stirring landscape of Britain’s UNESCO World Heritage are unrivalled. It incorporates lakeside paths, quiet country lanes, a section of the Cumbria Way and also some of the best not frequented paths that provide truly jaw dropping moments as the surrounding views of high fells, gushing streams, traditional stone villages and beautiful lakes appear. The mileages for this walk are not huge as it is too good to rush and there are great lunch stops each day. ACCOMODATION We stay at The Brown Horse at Winster, The Coniston Inn at Coniston and The Swan at Grasmere.ITINERARYDAY 1 WARM UP WALK. Meet at?the Brown Horse for coffee then circular walk exploring the Winster Valley. 8 miles / 1000ft ascentDAY 2WINDERMERE TO CONISTON. Private taxi to Bowness, cross the lake via the Windermere Ferry. Walk to Hawkshead for lunch, then on to Coniston. 9 ? miles / 1700ft ascent. Option to walk extra 3 miles to ferry if preferred. DAY 3 CONISTON TO GRASMERE. Beautiful walk to Grasmere via Tarn Hows, Iron Keld, lunch at Cheshters By The River then around Loughrigg Tarn and Red Bank to Grasmere. 10 miles /1650 ft ascent.DAY 4GRASMERE TO WINDERMERE. Iconic walk along The Coffin Trail to Ambleside and on to Windermere, then return to Winster. There are various options available for this route. 5 miles / 9 miles / 13 miles, combining public transport if time in Ambleside or Bowness is preferred. There is also the option to stay for another night at the Brown Horse and either depart after breakfast or stay for another fantastic circular walk from Winster. COSTINCLUDES4 Days guided walking.3 Nights Bed & Breakfast accommodation. NB. Lake District hotels tend to be expensive and I am basing these costs on what I hope is the maximum we would have to pay.
