Child needs safety and comfort or feels unsafe
Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt
Child wants to be an individual or is taught that can’t be
Initiative vs. Guilt
Tries to control environment/do new things or feels guilty for failing
Industry vs. Inferiority
Child wants to do “better” stuff, be useful if not feels bad, inferior
Identity vs. Identity confusion:
Adolescent learns who he is or has problems establishing identity.
Intimacy vs. Isolation:
Person has the ability to form real adult relationships based on trust, mutual respect or keep distance,
can only have superficial relationships.
Generativity vs. Stagnation:
Middle adulthood-late adulthood:
Person feels like they are doing something worthwhile and valuable or feel stagnant or like they are doing nothing with they’re lives.
Ego Integrity vs. Ego despair.
Late adulthood. Look back on life and be content with accomplishments and how you lived. Or regret.
