The Code

Sunday, 21 September 2014 New Series

From the outback of Australia to the corridors of power in Canberra, The Code tells the story of two very different brothers who unearth

information that those at the highest levels of political power would kill to keep secret.

Ned Banks (Dan Spielman) has spent the last ten years juggling his career as an online journalist while caring for his smart but troubled

brother, Jesse (Ashley Zukerman).

When Alex Wisham (Lucy Lawless) sends him a video file of an accident in the outback involving two teenagers and a truck from a classified

research facility, Ned thinks his big break has finally come. But the file is corrupted.

With Jesse's help, Ned is able to clean up the video, and its contents are shocking. Ned and his boss Perry (Adam Garcia) attempt to publish

the video online but the response is immediate and frightening: they're warned to leave the story alone.

The prospect of the accident going public is scaring powerful people. The Prime Minister's Chief of Staff, Randall Keats (Aden Young) and

Director of Communications, Sophie Walsh (Chelsie Preston Crayford) are directed to feed one of their own minister's infidelities to the press

gallery in an attempt to distract them from the explosive story behind the accident.

But the swift and stern reaction to the video drives Ned to investigate further, and he books a flight to the accident site - a decision that

will have deadly consequences.

Cast: David Wenham, Lucy Lawless, Adele Perovic, Dan Wyllie, Paul Tassone, Aden Young, Aaron Pedersen.

Brilliant Creatures: Germaine, Clive, Barry & Bob

Tuesday, 23 September 2014 Final

The 'Gang of Four' are at their peak. It's 1970, and Hughes, a psychedelic art pundit and lecturer, gets a phone call from New York. Time

Magazine is offering him a job. He moves there to become one of the greatest art critics ever.

The Female Eunuch is published to critical acclaim, and Germaine finds herself staring down the personification of the masculine elite, Norman

Mailer. But she confides in Howard that the success of The Female Eunuch was not the book but ‘the moment’.

Barry was on a ‘slower boil’, appearing on stage, forgetting which stage, and generally getting drunk. He was in part saved by Bruce Beresford

and Phillip Adams, who convinced him to make a movie out of his comic character Barry McKenzie.

Clive was in Cambridge acting and writing and getting breaks in Fleet Street - it wasn't just his content that cut through, it was his prolific

output. Soon, he was ‘a junior member of the London literati’.

The 70s saw them ‘coruscate on the page’, says Howard. In the 1980s their medium was television - Hughes made The Shock of the New; Clive

hosted a show on BBC and ITV for the best part of 20 years; Germaine was every network's go-to intellectual and Barry's Dame Edna was

transformed from a housewife into a superstar.

Nostalgia was never far from their minds, and the written word was the way each expressed it: Unreliable Memoirs, My Life as Me, Daddy We

Hardly Knew You and The Fatal Shore. The relationships each has with their mother country was never far from the core.

Utopia: The First Project

Wednesday, 24 September 2014

Slightly disillusioned by his first 11 months in the job, Tony (Rob Sitch) thinks back to when it all began. The launch of the NBA was a great

success but within weeks Jim (Anthony 'Lehmo' Lehmann) was at his door, desperate for some sort of new public announcement.

Stalled in the pre-planning stages, Tony and his team were forced to cope with Rhonda (Kitty Flanagan), angry cyclists, plumbing problems and

gluten-free muffins. Not an auspicious start.

Also stars Celia Pacquola, Dave Lawson, Luke McGregor, Michelle Lim Davidson, Emma-Louise Wilson and Toby Truslove.

[pic]

PRODUCTION DETAILS:

Written and produced by Santo Cilauro, Tom Gleisner and Rob Sitch. Casting by Jane Kennedy. Michael Hirsh is Executive Producer. Directed by Rob Sitch. A Working Dog Production in association with ABC TV. ABC TV Commissioning Editors: Rick Kalowski and Brett Sleigh.

Thursday, 25 September 2014 Final

Martha (Maxine Peake) is becoming increasingly isolated as she fights to defend ex-boyfriend Sean against overwhelming evidence. Determined to

ignore an angry Clive (Rupert Penry-Jones) who attempts to force her to confront the holes in her client's story, Martha begins to wonder if

she's cut out for this job.

As she begins to uncover further lies Sean has told, she's shocked when she is forced to rely on an old enemy to have any hope of clearing his

name. As chambers begin to worry for her emotional stability, Martha's campaign to become Head of Chambers begins to suffer.

The shocking truth about the case is finally revealed, and as the jury returns its verdict, a shattered Martha is forced to confront her

actions and their effect on the case. Will she be able to move forward from this?

Billy's (Neil Stuke) harassment tribunal comes to a conclusion, and as members vote for a new Head of Chambers to guide them into an uncertain

future, Martha is forced to seriously consider hers.

Children Of The Sex Trade

Thursday, 25 September 2014

In the face of death threads two young sisters in the Philippines, Michelle (16) and Marisol (19), show remarkable courage by helping former

Australian police and Special Forces officers rescue underage girls from Subic Bay's sex bars, and investigate foreign child sex offenders.

The girls, both abused by foreign men as children, had also worked in Subic Bay's sex bars. They now work at PREDA, a human rights foundation

set up in 1974 by Fr. Shay Cullen, an Irish Catholic priest. They help three former Australian Federal Police officers, who have volunteered

with PREDA, to investigate the Australian man who allegedly sexually abused Michelle, the younger sister when she was fourteen. They are joined

by John Curtis, a former Special Forces officer and the founder of Grey Man, an organisation that rescued children from brothels in Asia. John

leads the sting operation to rescue young girls from two Subic Bay sex bars catering exclusively to foreign men.

Director and producer Luigi Acquisto has had a strong interest in the issue of trafficking and child rights for many years. This has been

reflected in two previous documentaries; Trafficked (2006) and its sequel Trafficked - The Reckoning (2011).

He also worked as an activist in this area, preparing, together with co-producer Stella Zammataro, the NSW victim of crime application for

Jetsaporn Chaladlone (Ning), the subject of the two documentaries. This application was successful and Ning became the first slave in history

to be awarded victim of crime compensation, anywhere in the world.

Shaun Micallef's MAD AS HELL

Now in its fourth series (something of a miracle for Micallef) MAD AS HELL returns with a cocky swagger and a raffish smile, ready to do to the weekly news in a way other ABC programs could only dream of: report on the stories which matter with an editorial slant rarely seen outside of Lenin's Soviet Republic.

Says Micallef, "I haven't noticed my old friend Josh Thomas tackling the big issues of the day on Please Like Me and that spineless coward Tom Ballard may as well abandon any pretence that Reality Check is a hard news show. And don't get me started on those repeats of Midsomer Murders. Thank God for Australia I have principles."

MAD AS HELL. It makes THE BOLT REPORT look like a serious commitment to the news.

Would I Lie To You?

A new series of Would I Like To You? fast-tracked from the UK. Rob Brydon returns to the host's chair for the eighth series of the comedy panel show.

Each week team captains, David Mitchell and Lee Mack are joined by a stellar cast of celebrity guests as they reveal amazing stories about themselves. Some stories are true, some are not. The aim of the game is to fool the opposition into mistaking fact for fiction and fiction for fact. The contestants have to bluff about their deepest secrets and the opposing team has to work out what's real and what's not.
