Year 8 Art & Design, Observational DrawingGuidance for students:I know many of you have been working on your own personal projects, please continue to do so.I am adding some additional suggestions for observational drawing, that is, looking closely at real objects, and drawing what you see. There are many objects you have at home that are perfect to practice your drawing skills, I have included some examples here of other people’s work, but if you search the words ‘observational drawing’ you will find many more.I have suggested three themes: Reflective Surfaces, Food Packages, and Nature.Reflective Surfaces - Look around your kitchen for examples: cutlery; can opener; kitchen tools; bottles and containers; metal cans; water tap.Food packages – Look for packages with an interesting shape, such as a ketchup bottle, or with an interesting logo, such as m&ms or skittles.Nature - Fruit and vegetables such as onions, mushrooms, tomatoes or half a pepper; close up of a house plant, or a flower from the garden; yourself - close ups of eyes; your hand in different positions, or holding an object.Search for ‘observational drawing ideas’ using Google or Pinterest, and there’s lots of ‘how to’ videos on YouTube to assist. HB and 2B pencils are all you need for many of these suggestions, and any type of paper you have available.C MulgrewReflective SurfacesReflective SurfacesArtist: Marcello Barenghi.
