Position Summary: This is a skilled position involving the operation and supervision of maintenance and repair of the municipal Waste Water Treatment System. Work involves occasional supervising and directing the operation and maintenance of the Waste Water Treatment Facility. Some work will also be involved in the maintenance and repair of lift stations and the collection system. Assure compliance with all state and federal regulations as it relates to Waste Water Treatment and Operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Directs and performs operation maintenance and repair work on all facets of the Treatment Facility.

• Check conditions of Treatment Facility.

• Responsible for overall operation, maintenance repair, and cleanliness of Treatment Facility.

• Supervises and coordinates activities for Waste Water Treatment Plant personnel. Coordinates equipment repairs by ordering necessary parts and/or shipment of equipment and parts for repair, obtaining price quotes for purchase of supplies, etc.

• Assists in the maintenance repair work and operations of Treatment Plant.

• Conducts tours of Treatment Facility.

• Gives directions to maintenance personnel involved in maintenance of the Treatment Plant.

• Prepares reports as required by regulating agencies.

• Maintains records of maintenance repair work and operations of Treatment Plant. Supervises Laboratory operations in absence of immediate supervision and performs lab work as needed.

• Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Two years of education at a post high school institution in engineering, biology, chemistry, environmental sciences or related fields.

• Valid New Mexico drivers license, CDL drivers or obtain required CDL license within 6 months of employment.

• Must be certified as a Waste Water Level IV Operator as outlined in the New Mexico Water Quality Commission regulations.

• Three to five years in Waste Water field with (1) one year as Level III Waste Water Operator in a treatment facility.

• Ability to communicate both in writing and orally in highly technological subject, including detailed reporting as required in daily operation and reporting to regulating agencies.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Knowledge of the functions and mechanics of motors, pumps and related equipment.

• Knowledge of basic laboratory testing methods and techniques.

• Extensive knowledge of Waste Water Treatment Plant Operations and theory and knowledge of the functions and mechanics of lift stations and Waste Water collections systems.

• Considerable knowledge of laboratory methods and analysis.

Work Enviroment:

• Work is performed in an outdoor setting about 40% of the time.

• Frequently work will be in an office setting. Some travel may be required.

• Work sites may include collection system, laboratory, Treatment Plant structures. Frequently may be required to work in inclement weather conditions.

Physical Requirments:

Mobility Factors: Walk 70%, climb steps 35%.

Primary Work Position: Stand 50%, sit 40%, kneeling 5%. Must have good health, strength and stamina to perform arduous tasks.

Special Conditions:

• Required to perform “On-Call” duties on weekends, holidays and anytime outside the normal working hours.
