Media Alert: CIT Graduation

The Escambia County Sheriff's Office is hosting officers from around the Gulf Coast for Crisis Intervention Training this week. The training was developed to help officers react appropriately to situations involving mental illness or developmental disability. CIT involves working in a team with mental health practitioners, law enforcement, medical personnel, and other first responders to provide the best services possible to the individual in mental health crisis.

The Escambia County Sheriff's Office is holding the class in conjunction with North West Florida CIT, a group of local Law Enforcement Agencies (Santa Rosa {LEO and Corrections}, Escambia {LEO and Corrections}, Pensacola State, PPD, UWF, Gulf Breeze) and Lakeview who train agencies in dealing with the growing problems of Mental Health issues. Three CIT classes are held each year.

Twenty-seven Law Enforcement Officers will be graduating from the class this Friday at 2:00 pm at the ECSO Training Facility located at 1190 W. Leonard St. The Media is welcome to attend and learn more about Crisis Intervention Training.
