Flipped Classroom model – Students watch a short video about the current unit at home and complete a Juno quiz (accessible through Jupiter Grades) about the material. Class time is spent reviewing anything the students had questions about and then exploring the material though research, documentaries, primary source materials, and projects.

Grading: Grades will be available on the Internet at . All assignments will be given a point value. Grades are determined by the number of points earned divided by the number of points possible. A unique start key and password will be sent home with each student to allow parental access.

Content: Tests: Tests will be given at the end of each unit.

Current Events: Each student will be assigned a day in each nine weeks to present a current event to the class. They will get detailed instructions to keep in their notebook.

National History Day: The NHD project is one of 8th grade’s signature projects. Students will begin in August and finish in February. There will be homework, class work, quizzes, research, and completion deadlines as students learn about doing historical research, choosing a topic, completing their research, supporting their research with an annotated bibliography, and presenting their research. There will be a NHD tab in their notebook where they will keep NHD information. They will receive a detailed deadline schedule. NHD assignments will be a significant portion of the first three grading periods.

Homework/Juno Quizzes: Several nights a week, students will watch a short video about the current unit. After viewing, they will complete a Juno quiz online (accessed through Jupiter Grades.) These must be completed by 8 a.m. the morning they are due or the grade will be a 0.

Projects: With each unit, students will complete project/s that support the Georgia History curriculum. Rubrics will be given for each of these.

Notebooks: Students should keep their notebook organized and up-to-date at all times. Periodic notebook checks/test will be given.

Participation: Students are expected to be prepared for class with all materials readily available. Class participation grades will be earned each nine weeks.
