TIMELINE
HISTORY MYSTERY
Due Date: __________
* Remember your project must be in on the due date*
PURPOSE
* There are many controversial / unsolved mysteries in our World History. This project is to have the student investigate such a topic and find evidence to support one of the sides of the controversy and be able to dispute the other side of the argument. A few key skills that will be used include evaluating sources, developing a thesis, comparing how authors treat the same topic and integrating technology.
DESCRIPTION
* You are to take an unsolved mystery in the provided list and prove your side of the case.
* In order to make your argument convincing the more evidence you have and the more sources and more types
of sources (internet, books, documentaries, magazine and newspaper articles, etc.) the better.
* You will have a choice to work with either a partner or by yourself. It is preferable that you work with a partner. Partners will be graded together.
* No two students may do the same topic
Choices will be decided based on the luck of the draw
* If you want to change your topic it must be approved by teacher
If you fail to get teacher’s approval a 20 point deduction will be given
PRESENTATION
* Need to give a position statement. This is like an introduction to an essay. What is the presentation about and what is your thesis.
Hint: try to grab the audience’s attention so they will be interested in what you are about to say
* You must give 6 pieces of evidence that supports your thesis
* You must then give 3 counter-arguments and disprove them wrong
* Conclusion is needed to wrap up main points and thesis
Hint: many presenters fail to do this (they sum up by saying “and that’s it”)
* Think of this like a lawyer during a court case (opening statement, witnesses, cross examination, closing)
* You may not read off of anything. You must memorize your information.
* Remember this is an oral presentation and your effort must be noticeable.
*If preferable, you my record this and use your video in place of an oral presentation.
GOOGLE SLIDES
* Pictures are required for all points made and there should be a caption under each, stating what the picture is
of (this is only be one or two words NOT a description)
* Besides images you must use at least one chart or piece of research data in your PPT
* The main object in the picture must be visible and large enough to see from a distance
* This must in your Google Drive account Folder titled “History Mystery”
OUTLINE
* An outline must be filled out and given to the teacher prior to the presentation.
* The outline must be in order of the presentation
* The purpose of the outline is so the teacher may use it as a checklist.
* The outline does not have to be word-for-word as it will be said during the presentation.
* The outline must be typed but must be set up the same way as the one given to you (download from weebly web site)
* Do not write anything extra on the outline, only what will be covered in the presentation.
*This must in your Google Drive account Folder titled “History Mystery”
ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY
* Must use at least 4 sources
* 3 of the sources must be different types (website, book, newspaper, etc)
*Assess the usefulness of each source in answering your research question and the credibility of each source (3-5 sentences).
*This must in your Google Drive account Folder titled “History Mystery”
