Commanding Officer’s Message

Greetings from the 67th Precinct! We have just arrived in what I like to call the second quarter of the game. Second and third quarters are the spring and summer months where typically we would find the most crime throughout the year. This is usually due to the nice weather in which all take advantage of, especially when it comes to planned back yard parties, social club functions, and other miscellaneous social events. This is time where I need community involvement more than ever! Any planned events in residential areas should be reported immediately to us so that any necessary preparations can be taken in the early stages of said event. Quality of life offenses will be strictly enforced with a zero tolerance policy firmly adhered to.

To keep the up the great relationship that we all enjoy I plan to continue with the community partnership events that were started in the past three years. We are going to acknowledge five members of the community for their dedicated service at the 67th Precinct Community Appreciation Breakfast that will be held later this year and our 67th Precinct Kops and Kids Sports Day which is planned to be held sometime in August. We are also having a 67th Precinct Medal Day to honor some of our fine officers and civilians who have performed above and beyond serving our community. We will continue to be at the service of our community and we all should cooperate with one another in order to make it a better place in which to live. Remember, if you see something, say something and always be safe by being aware of your surroundings!

Triple Shooting

On Saturday, April 2nd, 2011 at 9:37 PM, police were called to 4807 Church Avenue for a person shot. Upon their arrival to that location it was discovered that there was in fact three people shot all with non-life threatening injuries, including a 14 year old female. The shooting occurred during the celebration of a baby shower at Universal Resort. We are happy to report that we were able to quickly identify the perpetrator of this crime. He was later arrested by one of our keen eyed officers who spotted the perpetrator walking along the street.

On Saturday,

Essay Writing Ceremony

On Saturday, February 26th, 2011 the 67th Precinct held its second annual Essay Writing Contest for children which was hosted by Deputy Inspector Corey Pegues at Tropical Paradise Ballroom. This year’s topic was GANG VIOLENCE. The setting was great, the company was fabulous, and the kid’s essays were all excellent. Talk about a hard time choosing the winner!

The night started with the introduction performed by the M.C., Jerry Barry, the brother of our own Police Officer Tanya Barry. It included Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, Senator Eric Adams, Councilman Mathieu Eugene, and the Keynote Speaker, Councilman Jumaani Williams whom were all in attendance for this fun night. The ballroom was filled to capacity and the night was filled with award presentations, performances, and plenty of food. The Police Commissioner spoke in detail about the importance of youth and community involvement in keeping out streets safe. The Commanding Officer, DI Corey Pegues, then spoke of the commitment he has made to the nine children who were awarded for writing the best essays covering the selected topic. The top winners received brand new lap tops, Amazon Kindles, and monetary awards and we wish to give a special thanks to all of the sponsors who helped make this night possible. We also wish to thank the essay writing committee whose hard work made the night an extreme success.

67th Precinct Clergy Council

The 67th Precinct Clergy Council acts as a liaison between cops, congregations, and the community by promoting healthy neighborhoods while minimizing crime and reviving activism within our churches. The membership is comprised of local pastors, associate pastors, associate ministers, elders, and evangelists.

Some of the services that they provide are: liaison between police and community, interfacing with the Commanding Officer of the 67th Precinct, supporting crime prevention programs and the personnel of the 67th Precinct, supporting the 67th Precinct Community Affairs initiatives, creating programs for crime reduction, offering training in police procedures, and providing spiritual counsel where and when needed.

We are also very pleased to announce that the Clergy Prayer Patrol (CPP) is a new initiative set to be launched in the summer of 2011.  The CPP program will organize prayer and spiritual counsel at crime sites, victim’s homes, hospital bedsides, and provide spiritual guidance in times of crisis. Teams of ten will be dispatched throughout the 67th Precinct as needed and work in coordination with the 67th Precinct.

On Thursday, April 7, 2011 the Clergy Council presented a town hall style meeting regarding the topic of CRIME & GANGS in BROOKLYN. This comprehensive presentation was conducted at the Church of God of East Flatbush located at 409-415 East 95th Street (between Willmohr St and Lenox Rd) and key members of the NYPD, FBI, Brooklyn’s District Attorney’s Office, and various Clergy all spoke about their roles in combating this type of violence followed by a question and answer period. There were many members of the community in attendance including impressionable children. All were in agreement, as the issued boiled down to community awareness, cooperation with those in Law Enforcement, and deep involvement in their children’s lives by providing safety and direction. More meetings on various topics will be scheduled for the future. We all want to STOP THE VIOLENCE AND INCREASE THE PEACE!

For more information or to join the council, please contact the 67th Precinct Clergy Council via their hotline at 718-284-1097 or e-mail them at 67thClergyCouncil@. Their next clergy monthly meeting will be held at the 67th Precinct station on Thursday, April 28th at 10 AM. As usual, all are welcome.

Community Affairs Blast

Spring is upon us and that means that block parties will soon be happening. We at the 67th Precinct have received a lot of applications so far and we are expecting a lot more to arrive. Remember it is not necessary to come to the 67th Precinct to do your pre-application. Just go to SAPO in order to register and to keep track of your application. We look forward to a festive summer full of fun and games and most importantly, we look forward to a safe and happy summer.

To help better the relationship that the 67th Precinct has with this great community, we invite all members of any civic or block associations, members of the clergy or church, business owners, and school officials to come and speak to the officers of the 67th Precinct and to let them know your concerns regarding our community. Introduce yourselves to the men and women at roll call before they hit the streets and give to them words of praise and encouragement or just stop by to say hello. All interested parties should call the 67th Precinct Community Affairs officers to make arrangements for a future appearance.

March Cop of the Month

On Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at approximately 11:30 AM, 67th Precinct Anti-Crime Police Officer Frederic Daughtry initiated a foot pursuit with a man wanted for an attempted car jacking. This perpetrator was apprehended and upon further investigation it was discovered that this person was also wanted for a gunpoint robbery that had occurred the same day.

In addition to that event, the perpetrator was positively identified with the help of the Brooklyn Robbery Squad as the perpetrator of numerous past robberies in Brooklyn and Queens. He had forced his victims to drive to an ATM at gunpoint and threatened his victims to give up their PIN numbers in order to withdraw money from their accounts. This crime spree did raise some media attention and had some communities in Brooklyn and Queens on high alert.

The apprehension of this criminal is a true reflection of the dedication and diligence that PO Daughtry has ensuring the safety of all community persons of East Flatbush. It is for this reason that he is awarded the Cop of the Month for March.
