Plan News was updated on February 1, 2005.

• December 31, 2004, participant statement — You can now view and print your TSP participant statement for the fourth quarter of 2004 from this Web site.  This statement covers the period from October 1, 2004, to December 31, 2004.

• IRS Form 1099-R — The TSP has mailed Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 1099-R to participants who received withdrawals or other taxable distributions from the TSP during 2004.  If you are expecting this form and have not received it by February 21, contact the TSP Service Office.

• Tax credit — If you participated in the TSP during tax year 2004, you may be eligible for the Retirement Savings Contributions Credit, which is available to participants with an adjusted gross income of no more than $50,000 if married filing jointly, $37,500 if head of household, or $25,000 if single or married filing separately.  For information, consult your tax advisor or refer to IRS Form 8880.

• TSP is tax-deferred — When you prepare your 2004 tax return, remember that your taxable wages reported on your W-2 form will be different from your annual salary.  This is because the money you have contributed to the TSP is tax-deferred and not considered part of your 2004 income for Federal income tax purposes.  Paying less tax on your current income is just one of the benefits of the TSP.
