MAXIMIZE YOUR STORAGE UNIT WITH THESE PACKING TIPS…..Packing your items into a storage unit requires effective packing and stacking. You must use proper planning on how to fit everything in your storage unit. All of our storage units are at least 8’ tall and you should try and use that cubic square foot to maximize the space that you have rented.Tip #1 Plan ahead to make packing easier.Take some time to plan out how to place your items into the storage unit to get the most benefit from it. Arrange enough packing supplies, such as corrugated boxes, plastic containers, packing paper, bubble wrap, wardrobe boxes, packing tape and marking pens, and furniture covers if needed.Tip #2 Fill boxes up to its capacity.Half full or overflowing boxes can collapse or tip over during storage. Stuff your storage boxes with packing paper so that valuable items do not get damaged. Before putting boxes in storage, seal them tightly with packing tape to prevent dust from entering while in storage or during transit.Tip #3 Label your boxes and?belongings When it comes to locating items in storage, use labels for easy identification and it will make life so much easier. You can print labels from our web page .Tip #4 Individually wrap dishes and glassware.Wrap glassware and dishes with wrapping paper or bubble wrap to keep them safe from breakage. Never put breakables under other boxes. Even fragile items like mirrors and large picture frames should be wrapped for protection. Always stand them on end, rather than flat on the floor.Tip #5 Make use of all available space. It is even good to use dresser drawers, refrigerators and other larger appliances to keep items such as towels, linens, and small, fragile items safe. Fill in the empty spaces with towels or packing paper so that your items do not get damaged.Tips #6 For better stacking use the same size boxes whenever possible. Free standing shelves and using same size boxes make the best use of vertical space.Tip #7 Use small boxes to pack heavy items like books and tools.Use small boxes for books and tools because they are easier to move. Put heavy items on bottom. Regardless of the size of boxes used do not pack more than 30lbs into each box. Tip#8 Use wood pallets to lift items off the floor.Use a wood pallet or grid of 2′ x 3’s on the unit floor for better air circulation under?your boxes and through your unit. Most importantly, never over pack the unit!Tip #9 Clean and dry appliances thoroughly, before putting them in storage.Refrigerators and freezers should be defrosted and dry. When possible remove doors of appliances and store separately. Washing machines should be drained. Also ensure that the fuel is completely drained from lawn mowers and blowers, before storing them. Wrap padding around each item for protection.Tip #10 Avoid mildew and mold.Avoid mildew and mold from growing on your items. The use of plastic covers could trap the air and promote the development of mold and mildew from the moisture and humidity in the atmosphere. Do Not move into your storage unit on a damp or rainy day. For storing particularly vulnerable and sensitive items, consider using a climate-controlled storage unit.PLEASE REMEMBER TO NEVER STORE ANY TYPE OF FOODS!!!A little organization goes a long way!
