828100-22247700 Elder Class Learning ActivitiesMonday 11th January 2021SubjectLesson discoveryLesson break downReading(30 minutes)Read the second chapter of The Hodgeheg and think about how Max is feeling. The children will need to have read the second chapter of the Hodgeheg for activities that will happen later in the week. Some children will be able to read the chapter independently, others will need support to read and comprehend what is happening. I will post a video of myself reading the chapter if the children would prefer to listen to it this way. When the chapter has been read, the children need to write down how think Max is feeling in the chapter and how they know. They can write one emotion, or multiple if they can recognise the various emotions Max shows in the chapterEnglish writing (45 Minutes)The reading will need to be done first before the writing activity. To describe a normal setting from a different perspective. In the Hodgeheg, the character of Max describes the world around him from a different perspective than we are used to (he describes the pavements as raised roads that cars are not allowed on). The children need to describe a setting as if they were a small animal (they can write as Max if they want to) looking at it with fresh eyes. One good setting to describe could be a room in your house, or your garden if you have one, have the children think about what everyday objects would look like to a tiny hedgehog or other small animal. The point of this is to get the children to focus on creatively describing a setting with a variety of expanded noun phrases.I have written an example piece to help guide the childrenMaths (45 Minutes)Solving multiplication problems using picturesOptional Starter – do a daily 10 activity online - It can also be found by googling daily 10. The children will need to choose level 2.Today’s lesson builds on last week’s learning and continues building up the children’s knowledge of multiplication whilst using the x symbol. Today the children will be looking at pictures to help with their questions. There are 4 challenges, plus an optional additional challenge and the Astrobee evaluation. For further help with it watch the white rose video at - and watch the multiplication sentence using pictures video.Science (45 Minutes)Introduction to food groups and the benefits of eachGo through the PowerPoint and look at each food group. The challenges are on a separate sheet and focus on the children selecting foods and creating balanced diets. This term we will be looking at healthy diets and lifestyles and this is an important part of the children’s understanding for later lessons.Extra Activities(Some things to do if you want toWatch the CBBC home learning (available between 9am and 12pm on CBBC or on iplayer)Complete the Joe Wicks PE lesson (live streamed on youtube starting at 9am Monday, Wednesday and Friday)Create your own quiz for the class on a subject we have looked atContinue your food diary from last week. ................
