Subject SummaryKS2 – Religion and World Views Core lessons follow the Guildford Diocese Board of Education Planning Scheme (enquiry-based units)Taken from statement of Entitlement Feb. 2019 ‘Parents and pupils are entitled to expect that in Church schools Christianity should be the majority religion studied in each year group and should be at least 50% of curriculum time. Sufficient dedicated curriculum time, meeting explicitly RE objectives, however organised, should be committed to the delivery of RE’ (No less than 5%) Content is developed by following Diocese of Guildford ‘What’s the big idea?’ UnitsDuring key stage 2, pupils extend their knowledge of Christianity, Judaism and Islam, and be introduced to aspects of Hinduism & Buddhism, recognising the impact of religion and belief locally (including within their own Church school), nationally and globally. The Optional Study Units for KS2 also include elements of Sikhism. Pupils may also begin to consider moral, ethical and philosophical issues, and where appropriate, they may also encounter non-religious belief systems such as Humanism. Where possible, pupils are encouraged to make links between different aspects of their learning in RE, utilising higher level thinking skills and linking concepts which they encounter in their everyday lives. The units have been split between lower and upper KS2 and are designed to cover throughout the 4-year cycle. There are 26 Christianity units (not all of equal length) and at least a further 8 units covering the other faiths.KS2 units build a framework of ‘big ideas’ – Christianity: God, Jesus Christ, Christmas, Easter, The Bible, The Church & Living as a ChristianOther Faiths: Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, SikhismYear BGuildford enquiry unitsNotes Assessment Assembly/Values – including religious stories/key figuresAutumn 1Christianity:How did Jesus’ teachings challenge people?Harvest serviceAssessments for units are based on levelled success criteria (provided within each unit).
