Plan a Web Site-(You will create a new folder to serve as the root folder for The Striped Umbrella Web site)

1. Copy Dreamweaver data files from S: drive to your NEW, CLEAN folder in My Documents.

2. Click the Start button on the taskbar, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, then click Windows Explorer.

3. Navigate to the drive and folder where you will create a folder to store your files for The Striped Umbrella Web site.

4. Click File on the menu bar, point to New, then click Folder.

5. Type striped_umbrella to rename the folder, then press [Enter].

6. Close Windows Explorer.

Define a Web Site-(You will create a Web site and define it with the name The Striped Umbrella)

1. Start Dreamweaver, click the Dreamweaver Site link in the Create New category on the Start page.

2. Click the Advanced tab, then type The Striped Umbrella in the Site name text box.

3. Click the Browse for File icon next to the Local root folder text box. Click the Select list arrow in the Choose local root folder for the site The Striped Umbrella dialog box. Click the drive and folder where your Web site files will be stored, then click the striped_umbrella folder.

4. Click Open. Then click Select. (Verify that the Refresh local file list automatically and the Enable cache check boxes are both checked. Verify that the Links relative to option button is set to Document)

Add a Folder-(You will use the Files panel to create a new folder under the striped_umbrella folder and name it assets)

1. Right-click The Striped Umbrella site in the Files panel, then click New Folder.

2. Type assets in the folder text box, then press [Enter].

Set the default images folder-(You will be setting the assets folder as the default images folder so that imported images will be automatically saved in it)

1. Click the Site list arrow next to The Striped Umbrella in the Site text box on the Files panel, click Manage Sites, then click Edit.

2. Click the Browse for File icon next to the Default images folder text box.

3. Navigate to the folder where your Web site files will be stored, double-click the striped_umbrella folder, double click the assets folder, then click Select.

4. Click Ok, then click Done.

Set the home page-(You will open a file and save it with the filename index, then set it as the home page)

1. Open dw1_2.html from the location where your Data Files are stored.

2. Click File on the menu bar, choose Save As, click the Save in list arrow, navigate to the striped_umbrella folder, type index in the File name text box, then click Save.

3. Right-click the index.html filename in the Files panel, then click Set as Home Page.

Save a graphic in the assets folder-(You will save The Striped Umbrella banner in the assets folder)

1. Click the Striped Umbrella banner to select it.

2. Click the Browse for file icon next to the Src text box in the Property Inspector, click the Look in list arrow, navigate to the assets folder in your Data Files folder for Chapter 1, click striped_umbrella_banner.gif, then click OK.

***If you don’t see the striped_umbrella_banner.gif file listed in the Files panel, click the Refresh button on the Files panel toolbar.

Add pages to a Web site-(You will add six pages to the Striped Umbrella Web site)

1. Click the plus sign to the left of the assets folder to open the folder and view its contents, striped_umbrella_banner.gif.

2. Right-click the striped_umbrella root folder, click New File, type about_us.html to replace untitled.html, then press [Enter].

3. Repeat Step 2 to add five more blank pages to The Striped Umbrella Web site, then name the new files: spa.html, café.html, activities.html, cruises.html, fishing.html

4. Click the refresh button on the Files panel to list the files alphabetically.
