• Principal or co-principal investigator in atmospheric science research programs (over $8.5 million) from agencies including DARPA, NASA, National Science Foundation, Environmental Protection Agency, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, US Air Force Space Division, Nuclear Regulatory Commission and numerous electric utilities conducted within both universities and consulting firms; served on UCAR and National Research Council committees

• Operational weather forecasting experience (over 10,000 forecasts prepared).

• Broad based experience with meteorological observations and data analysis, coastal weather, hurricanes, severe storms and lightning research, research aviation, air pollution meteorology, and remote sensing systems such as lightning detection networks, radar and satellite.

• Almost twenty years experience in commercial television and radio weathercasting in major markets (Chicago, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and the ABC Television Network); served as national media spokesperson for Honeywell, Inc. on indoor weather and air quality issues; frequent public lecturer on weather and popular science topics, including lightning, sprites and severe weather. Served as Chair, AMS Board on Broadcast Meteorology.

• Over 35 years experience as a consultant and expert witness in insurance claim investigations and litigation, serving defendants, plaintiffs and as a court-appointed expert. Served as expert witness or consultant in >400 cases.

• Founded and manage , a stock video/photo website for educational outreach (2008 - )
