[8 marks]SOURCE A: A Ministry of Propaganda Order'Photos showing Reich government ministers at dining tables with rows of bottles must not be published in the future. This has given the impression that members of the government are living it up'.SOURCE B: A painting called The Fuhrer Speaks, produced by a German artist in 1939. It shows a family listening to a radio broadcast by Hitler.ANSWER:Source A shows that Goebbels and his Ministry of Propaganda used censorship when controlling the press. This is shown as the source states that certain pictures of government officials ‘must not be published in the future’. Moreover this source also suggests that the press could not print everything they would have liked in Nazi Germany. This is implied in the source as it states that previous photos have ‘given the impression that members of the government are living it up’. The content of this source is therefore useful as it implies that the press was heavily censored at the time, meaning that the Nazis had a powerful control over propaganda in the country. The provenance of this source also makes the source useful for the enquiry. This is because it comes directly from the Ministry of Propaganda, and therefore from Goebbels, making the source authentic. Moreover, this Order was produced in order to control the newspapers. This means that the source is trustworthy when looking in to how the Nazis controlled propaganda. In addition to this, the content of the source is consistent with my knowledge. Censorship was a important feature of newspapers in Nazi Germany. In 1935 alone, 1,600 newspapers were shut down as they did not follow Nazi guidelines. However, the source is incomplete as we are not sure how many newspapers directly followed this guideline. Overall, this source is extremely useful for understanding the effectiveness of propaganda in Nazi Germany due to its reliable provenance and it being consistent with my knowledge.Source B…Inference 1What does this source show?Quote/detailWhat does this suggest/imply?Inference 2What does this source also show?Quote/detailWhat does this suggest/imply?AuthorI can/cannot trust the author because…Comment on the nature/origin/purpose of the sourceDoes it match my own knowledge? This source is typical/untypical because…Moreover…Now write a concluding sentence:KEY WORDS TO USE:ContentInfer, imply.ProvenanceSensationalised, exaggerated, authentic/objective, inauthentic/subjective, reliable/trustworthy, unreliable/untrustworthy.ContextAccurate, inaccurate, typical, atypical, comprehensive/complete, incomprehensive/incomplete.Other Key words that I will use:Goebbels, propaganda, censorship ................
