Eco - Bees

Over the next 3 weeks (by Friday, June 5th 2020) please complete, on paper (take a photo of the finished task and upload to Hwb) or on your Hwb account (save in the Home Learning folder), the following activities:-

Maths

Introducing column subtraction and consolidating column addition, with ** being the more challenging activity.

• Activity 1 – Example – Subtraction Column Method

• Activity 2 – Example – Addition Column Method

• Activity 3 – Subtracting from 2 digit numbers *

• Activity 4 – Subtracting from 3 digit numbers**

• Activity 5 - Addition and Subtraction Word Problems – 2 digit numbers *

• Activity 6 – Addition and Subtraction Word Problems – 3 digit and 2 digit numbers**

• Activity 7 – Top Marks Game – Quick recall of addition and subtraction facts: Hit the Button, Daily 10, Subtraction Grids

Literacy – Bees comprehension – Choose either Comprehension 1 or Comprehension 2 whichever one is more suitable for you – or you could try both! Read the text/article and answer the questions. Take a photo of the completed task and upload to your Hwb account or you can type your answers on J2e and save in the Home Learning folder.

Glossary – match the words associated with Bees and their meanings and make a glossary – remember a glossary is written in alphabetical order. Glossary A is the easier version, Glossary B is the challenge version – choose the one which is more suitable for you.

Spelling activity – Practise reading and spelling words from the spelling sheets using the Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check strategy that we have practised in class. Choose 5 or 10 words at a time then after practising for a week ask someone to test you – how many can you spell correctly?

Tables - Keep practising the multiplication tables in this order – x2, x5, x10, x11, x3, x4, x6, x7, x8, x9, x12 – use the multiplication sheet in the Home Learning tab on our website to help you. There are lots of ways to learn the tables e.g. chant them in different voices, write each table out several times every day, use J2Blast on Hwb, play Fastest Splat with mum/dad/brother/sister.

Reading - Read every day. You can find a selection of additional books on the Oxford Owl website. Go to the website oxfordowls.co.uk. Click on class log in. Username is Miss Ashton and password is School123.

First News – read this week’s edition of the ‘First News’ newspaper. You could record yourself speaking about your favourite or most interesting article and upload it to Hwb.

Cymraeg – Use the placemats to practise asking and answering questions about yourself. Record yourself and save it to your Hwb account using the upload icon on this page of your Hwb account.

Topic – ‘Bees’

Expressive Arts – please see the attached sheet and make something of your choice related to Bees – take a photo of your work and upload to your Hwb folder.

ALSO:-

Choose at least one from the following activities:-

• Write a non-chronological report or a leaflet about Bees – include an opening paragraph, a paragraph about what a bee looks like and the features of its body, a paragraph about the life cycle of a bee, a paragraph about how bees collect nectar and make honey, fascinating facts (at least 3) and a closing statement about why bees are important and need protecting. You could also include a drawing or photo.

• Write an acrostic poem for ‘Honey Bee’ or a Tanka poem about Bees. Tanka poems are 5 lines long and follow this structure:-

Line 1 – 5 syllables

Line 2 – 7 syllables

Line 3 – 5 syllables

Line 4 – 7 syllables

Line 5 – 7 syllables

• Record yourself presenting 6 facts about Bees and also include why it is important to look after them. You could make a Bee background or green screen to record yourself against or wear black and yellow – or think of your own idea – ‘bee creative’.

• Make a ‘Bee Hotel’ - ask an adult to help you make a Bee Hotel. Solitary bees are important pollinators and a gardener’s friend. Help them by building a bee hotel for your garden and watch them buzz happily about their business. Have a look at the instructions sheet or create your own! Once you have made your Bee Hotel take a photo and upload it to your Hwb account!

• Make a recipe which includes ‘honey’ – write out the recipe and take a photo of your cooking
