In To Kill A Mockingbird chapters twelve to fourteen, you see how family can change and evolve, family can expand to people who aren't blood to you, and can be ignoring, annoying, and loving. The Finch house changes drastically when the kids arrive home from church with Calpurnia (because Atticus is away for a few weeks on work) and find Aunt Alexandria there because she thinks they need a feminine figure in the house. Dill's family also changes, he will not be coming back to maycomb to live with his aunt for the summer because he "has a new father". Everyone is happy to have her, except her family/ Jem and Scout are not happy about her staying with them, especially Scout who she wants to become just like her. Alexandria fills her days with gossip and discussing her ancestry, she's very proud of her ancestors and makes Atticus lecture the kids about them, which makes Scout cry. When Scout starts repeating things she heard at Cal's church, and asks about them Alexandria demands Atticus fire her, and says she is unneeded, but Atticus say's she is family and he refuses. Jem tells Scout to not cause problems with aunt Alexandra, and Scout gets mad and attacks him, getting them both sent to bed. Scout and Jem end up finding Dill under Scout's bed because he feels ignored and unloved by his mother and "new dad. " Jem goes down the hall and tells Atticus. Atticus asks Scout to get him some food and he tells Miss Rachel, (Dill's aunt)where he is. he gets to spend the summer there it is decided.
