Being Righteous If you have spent a lot of time reading the Bible, you probably have read the word "righteous" many times. Being righteous means more than simply doing good things. A righteous person has decided to live a lifestyle that pleases the Lord. Being righteous doesn't make that a person better than someone else. Being righteous is about realizing that you are not perfect and that you can only do good works for God's kingdom through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Christians become righteous by deciding to glorify God through everything that they do.

Lesson 2

Bible Quiz: True or False Determine whether the statement is true or false. If false, rewrite the sentence so that it is true.

__1. God says that it is ok to be mad at someone and hate them as long as you don't hurt them. __________________________________________________________________

__2. When we are angry, in God's sight it is like we have committed murder in our hearts. __________________________________________________________________

__3. We can fully worship God even with hatred in our heart. _________________________________________________________________

__4. Before we give to God, we should go and make peace with someone who we are angry with. __________________________________________________________________

__5. Forgiving others means that we no longer hold what they did wrong against them. __________________________________________________________________

Reconciling with Friends Have you ever put something that was broken back together with glue or tape? Maybe you glued an old letter back together or tapped a picture back together that was torn. That is what reconciliation is like, but between people. When we are divided with someone over an issue, the relationship did not start that way. You did not make a friend while being mad at that person. Instead, you were friends together, but something tore the two of you a part. When we reconcile with our friends, we come together again with love and forgiveness. God doesn't want us to be angry with each other, but He knows that because we are not perfect, sometimes we will get angry. Instead of staying angry, we should forgive and reconcile as fast as we can. Sometimes it is easy to reconcile. But sometimes people can hurt us so badly that we need to pray for God's help before we can forgive them. Do whatever it takes to be reconciled with your friend.

Bible Quiz: Maze

Loving Your Enemies You probably have read the verse that tells us "Love your enemies" (Matt. 5:44; Luke 6:27). But usually, we only want to love our enemies if they change and love us back. Jesus never said, "Love your enemies only if they love you back." Jesus tells us to love our enemies regardless of how they treat us after we show them love. That doesn't seem fair, right? But isn't God always fair? Yes, He is. And that is why He loves those who don't love Him. He loves all of the people that He created. He just hates their sin. You don't have to love what your enemies do to you. They may be mean to you, call you names, or maybe even try to hurt you. Instead of hating them, you need to pray for them and not talk badly about them. Every chance you get, you need to treat them with kindness, generosity, and love. Before you knew Jesus, that is what He did for you. He expects you to do the same for your enemies. It can be difficult at first, but God is pleased when you obey Him and love your enemies.

5. Some people act like Christians in front of everyone because they are trying to bring _____________ to themselves. A. embarrassment B. wealth C. shelter D. honor

The Fruits of the Spirit Have you ever heard someone say that Christians should have the fruits of the Spirit? Does the Holy Spirit give us apples, oranges and grapes? No. When Paul wrote about the fruits of the Spirit in the Bible, he was writing about the spiritual gifts that the Holy Spirit gives us to use to help others and bring glory to God. This is comparing us to being like a tree and our actions produce good things the same way that a tree produces good fruit. In Galatians 5:22-23, the Apostle Paul tells us that the Holy Spirit gives Christians love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Many people who are not Christians do these things also, but they don't do them to bring glory to God or to show others God's love. Christians are to show others God's love through their actions every day, and the Holy Spirit helps us do that.

4. What Jonathan made to David. 5. The King of Israel.

1. David's best friend. 2. What Jonathan saved David from. 3. The man who Saul wanted to kill.

Covenant Relationships When others make promises to us, they are telling us that we can count on them to make something happen. When Jonathan made a covenant with David, it was a promise. Jonathan gave his word that he would never betray his friendship with David. Did you know that someone wants to make that kind of covenant with you? Jesus offers us the opportunity to have a covenant relationship with Him. If we trust Him as our Savior--to save us from our sins and believe that God raised Jesus from the dead--we will have covenant relationship with God. This relationship does not mean that we don't have to do anything after we become Christians. Because we believe in Christ, we are to honor our covenant with God by living for Him the same way that Jesus did.

Loyal Friend God gave us friends and family members as gifts, and He wants us to be loyal to those who are loyal to Him. Our first responsibility is to be loyal to God and follow His commands. Then we are to be loyal to our friends and help them in any way that we can. In today's story, Ruth was loyal to Naomi and she wanted to worship Naomi's God. That is how our relationships with our friends and family should be. We should help each other grow stronger in our faith for God by encouraging each other to stay away from sin. God will honor our relationships that bring Him glory. How are your relationships bringing Him glory? If your friends are not Christians, that doesn't mean that you should stop being friends with them. You simply need to know that as a true friend, you need to show them God's love and lead them accept Jesus as their Savior and Lord. Stay loyal to your Christian friends, and help your non-Christian friends know God through your actions by showing them His love.

Lesson 7

Bible Quiz: True or False Determine whether the statement is true or false. If false, rewrite it so the sentence is true.

__ 1. Ruth and Naomi had a lot money when they moved to Judah. _____________________________________________________________________

__ 2. Boaz owned the field that Ruth was picking grain in. ______________________________________________________________________

__ 3. Naomi gave special instructions to Ruth to go and ask Bart if she could marry him. ______________________________________________________________________

__ 4. Boaz was Ruth's kinsmen-redeemer. ______________________________________________________________________

__ 5. Ruth and Boaz were ancestors to David and to Jesus. ______________________________________________________________________

Kinsman-redeemer (Next-of-kin) Remember that conjoined word "kinsman-redeemer" (KJV) from today's lesson? Did it make sense to you? We don't really use words like those much, especially in American English. But "kinsmen-redeemer" was a very important term during the time that Ruth lived. In ancient times Israelite women did not have many legal rights or ways to make money. A woman was supported by her husband financially and in society. So when a woman's husband died, there weren't a lot of resources available to help her to live a safe and successful life. But there was a law that said that when a woman's husband died, a close unmarried male family member, like a brother or cousin, was allowed to marry the widow. That man would be the kinsmanredeemer (next of kin), bringing the woman back to a place of financial and societal security through the marriage. Even though our modern laws don't include kinsman-redeemers, this story is a picture of what Jesus did for us. He saved us from the consequences of sin and death by dying on the cross for our sins. He gives us safety and security from eternal death and makes us whole.

Lesson 8

Bible Quiz: Maze

Members of the Body of Christ Sometimes it can seem confusing when the Bible says that we are members of the Body of Christ. The Bible calls us that because God has given all Christians different gifts and responsibilities to do different things for Him. Every part of your body does something different, but it all works together to keep you alive and active. In the same way, we all have a responsibility to use our gifts and talents to promote the Kingdom of God and salvation through Jesus. Whether we are singers, dancers, athletes, preachers, or even really good at school, we all can use our gifts to be a part of the Body of Christ. We are a family and a team. We need to work together to show others God's love and to give Him glory.
