For Immediate Release:

Garden City Public Schools Announces its 10th Annual Afternoon Tea

Hungry robins searching for plump worms will soon dot the lawns around Garden City, as crocus break the ground to show off their white and purple petals. Even as we dust off the scant snows from this past winter, planning for Garden City Public School’s Afternoon Tea has been well underway. The Afternoon Tea Committee - our “TEAm” - has been hard at work preparing for the May 2nd event which is offered FREE to Garden City’s senior citizens and past parents who request tickets.

In its banner 10th year, the Afternoon Tea is sponsored by Garden City Public Schools with the support of the GC PTA, SEPTA, and Garden City High School. The Tea would also not be possible without the support of our local business sponsors (the full list of these generous business partners will be available soon). The event is modeled after a traditional English Afternoon Tea, and features delicious food and desserts served by student volunteers, and the amazing musical and artistic talents of Garden City’s K-12 students. As in the past, the Tea will again feature a Ladies Hat Contest with awards, so dust off those beautiful chapeaus!

Other wonderful gifts and activities are planned for our attending ladies and gentlemen. The Afternoon Tea is FREE to senior citizens and past parents of the District but, due to limited seating and high demand, all guests MUST HAVE TICKETS. A ticket application form (limit – two per address) is listed on page 23 of the district’s Spring 2019 Continuing Education Catalog – recently delivered to every Garden City resident at his/her home address. The Afternoon Tea ticket form is also available online for home printing on the district website: gardencity.k12.ny.us, under “Important News,” or ticket application forms can be picked up at Garden City Administration Building, 56 Cathedral Avenue, during regular business hours (Mon-Fri., 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) or the Senior Center on Golf Club Lane during regular business hours.

Kindly mail all ticket request forms to: 2019 Afternoon Tea, Office of Public Information, 56 Cathedral Avenue, Garden City, NY, 11530, or you may drop off your completed form at the Administration Building, 56 Cathedral Avenue.

No phone or email requests, please. Tickets are awarded on a first come, first served basis, and will be mailed to the recipients’ address, while supplies last.

So, please mark your calendars – the Afternoon Tea event will take place on Thursday, May 2nd, 2019, 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at Garden City High School. For more information, please call Dr. Catherine Knight, Coordinator of Public Information: 478-1079.
