The concern about the virus is understandably compounding the anxiety many of us already feel when beginning a new academic year, especially for our Freshmen and Transfer students who are about to begin a new chapter in their lives at the University of Arkansas.The band faculty and staff have been closely monitoring research regarding Covid-19 as well as information from our institution, state, and the Center for Disease Control. Our first priority for the fall semester is to create the safest environment and experience possible for our students, staff, and faculty. Our plans for Razorback Marching Band, Hogwild Pep Band, and Concert Bands are based on the most current information available and the need to protect our students as much as possible.We would like to invite all students and parents to an informational Zoom session on?Wednesday, August 5th at 7pm?when we?will discuss our plans for the fall semester and how all aspects of band experience will be impacted. Early Week will begin with section only/like-section meetings during the week. Starting the first week of classes, the RMB will meet as a face-to-face course at 50% capacity (approximately 165 students) at a time. Rather than having two large ensembles with full instrumentation and everyone at each rehearsal, the students in the Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony will be assigned rotating parts in music written for smaller combinations of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. The combination of smaller groups of people in rehearsals is necessary during this time but still provides opportunities to explore great literature. Small ensembles may not meet regularly and will only meet for a maximum of thirty minutes during the Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony class timeAuditions will be submitted via video by?Sunday, August 23rd at 4:00 pmand must include: 1) two excerpts, and 2) the chromatic scale through the full range of your instrument (any rhythm, scale pattern, or articulation). There will not be any sight-reading.
