Starting Up

The ArcMap window has two portions, the map window on the right and the Table of Contents (TOC) on the left. Both are blank, because you haven't added any data yet. Maximize the window so that it fills the entire screen (click the open box in the upper right corner). Don’t work in a small window – always maximize the window. ................
