TODAY'S GAME: The M-Braves and Tennessee Smokies continue the series-opening five-game series at Smokies Stadium. Atlanta Braves No. 12 overall prospect LHP Joey Wentz faces off against Chicago Cubs' No. 10 prospect RHP Cory Abbott.

This marks the second-straight season that the M-Braves and Smokies have faced each other to open the year. The M-Braves took the five-game series at Trustmark Park, 3-2 and lead the all-time series, 78-75

This is the first road series to begin a season since 2008. This is just the fourth time in 15 seasons that Mississippi has opened a season away from Trustmark Park.

LAST TIME OUT: The M-Braves earned their first win of 2019 in a 4-3 decision on Friday night at Smokies Stadium, in 11 innings. Each club exchanged runs in the 10th while Mississippi held the Smokies off the board in the bottom of the 11th. RHP Jason Creasy picked up his first win with 2.0 innings of scoreless relief and RHP Josh Graham earned the save with a pair of strikeouts. Cristian Pahce was 2-for-5 with another stolen base. Jonathan Morales was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Andy Wilkins hit his first home run, a solo shot in the sixth, finishing 2-for-5.

ANOTHER 2016 SELECTION, WENTZ STARTS: Atlanta's No. 12 prospect according to , Joey Wentz makes his first start of 2019 in game three of the series at Tennessee.

Wentz made 16 starts for High-A Florida and went 3-4 with a 2.28 ERA (17 ER/67.0 IP) and 53 strikeouts in 2018. His 2.28 ERA was lowest among all Atlanta farmhands with at least 15 starts. Wentz appeared in three big league spring training games, posting no record, allowing two runs on four hits over 2.1 IP, two walks and two strikeouts.

150 HOMERS AND COUNTING: INF Andy Wilkins hit his first home run as a Brave on Friday night, his 150th in the minor leagues. Wilkins hit one major league home run in 2016 for Milwaukee.

EXTRA EXTRA: For just the second time since the new extra-inning rule was installed last season, the M-Braves played an 11-inning contest.

The M-Braves were 5-5 last season in extras and now 99-92 all-time in extra-inning games.

OPENING DAY ROSTER: The M-Braves Opening Day roster has 25 active players and three on the injured list to begin the season.

Overall the initial roster has 14 players returning to Mississippi from 2018, 13 that were drafted by the Braves, four minor league free agents, four non-drafted free agents, three acquired via trade and one selected in the Rule 5 draft.

The roster contains three with MLB experience (Jason Hursh, Ben Rowen, Andy Wilkins), seven countries represented (United States, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Aruba, Columbia, Mexico and the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico)

Nine top 30 prospects according to (Ian Anderson (3), Cristian Pache (4), Drew Waters (8), Joey Wentz (12), Kyle Muller (13), Patrick Weigel (19), Tucker Davidson (22), C.J Alexander (23) and Ray-Patrick Didder (30)...three top 100 prospects in baseball according to (Anderson (32), Pache (36) and Waters (84)).

The roster contains five players that are 21-years-old, or younger to begin the season. OF Drew Waters is the youngest (20, 12/30/98), followed by OF Cristian Pache (20, 11/19/98), RHP Ian Anderson (20, 5/2/98), LHP Joey Wentz (21, 10/6/97) and LHP Kyle Muller (21, 10/7/97).

HAMMER TIME: Jackson, MS native Chris Maloney "Hammer" returns for his second season as M-Braves manager. Maloney, 57, the seventh skipper in franchise history attended Jackson's St. Joseph High School and went on to play collegiate baseball at Mississippi State University, graduating in 1983.

During his first season in 2018, Maloney guided the M-Braves to a 67-71 record, boasting a 38-30 mark in the second half of the season, missing out on the playoffs by just one game in the standings. Maloney enters 2019 ranked eighth among active minor league managers with 1,417 wins (1,4171,321 overall record, .518 winning percentage) and has guided his clubs to winning records in 11 of 21 seasons and league championships in 1993 (Savannah Cardinals, South Atlantic League) and 2009 (Memphis Redbirds, Pacific Coast League).
